Default Fake Scid Warning

What Pascal Georges did was to create a fork (new program based
upon the code of the original Scid -- a normal practice in the
world of open-source software.) He also used code from ChessDB
-- again, normal practice that is allowed and even encouraged.

Alas, Pascal Georges then proceeded to pretend that his fork
of Scid is the real Scid. The "Scid" name belongs to Shane
Hudson, and stands for Shane's Chess Information Database.
Shane Hudson never gave Pascal Georges permission to use the
name SCid his forked project. Pascal Georges stole the name,
taking advantage of Shane Hudson illness. This is why the
sourceforge admims wouldn't allow Pascal Georges to host his
project on sourceforge.net.

The REAL Scid is found he [ http://scid.sourceforge.net/ ]
There are at least two forks of Scid, but Pascal Georges'
is the only one that pretends to be Scid and not a program
derived from Scid..

The real Scid:
Scid: [ http://scid.sourceforge.net/ ]

Forks of Scid:
ChessDB: [ http://chessdb.sourceforge.net/ ]
Fake Scid: [ http://prolinux.free.fr/scid/ ]

Other open source chess database projects:
ChessX :[ http://chessx.sourceforge.net/ ]
New Scid: [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/newscid/ ]
JavaChess DB: [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/jcdb/ ]
sChess: [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/schess/ ]
Grue CDB: [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/grue-cdb/ ]
DB2Chess: [ http://sourceforge.net/projects/tml-chess/ ]

Also:

jose-chess: [http://jose-chess.sourceforge.net/]

This DB is independently notable in that it handles Chess960 as well as
regular chess. Hook it up to the Fruit engine and you can play Chess960
against your computer.
