I'm trying to install ChessDB on Suse 10.3. The configure and make
output looks good (quoted below), but it isn't getting installed. Tcl/
Tk and zlib seem to be installed and found by the configure file. I
don't see any obvious errors. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The compiled programm is named chessdblet and don't forget that the current
directory is not in $PATH, so try to start with ./chessdblet

Did you do a make install? What does it say in the readme or install as
to where it is placed. I would assume /usr/local/bin if so is it in
your path?

Thanks, but that's not it. chessdblet is an auxiliary program, not the
main chessdb. In the past I've had no problems installing this and
IIRC it usually installs to /usr/local/bin. Not this time.

Thanks. Yes to all the above.

Well, I just redid the compile and install for the third time and it
seems to work.I'm not sure what I did wrong. Strange. Sorry for
troubling you guys.

Well it worked on my 10.3 system.. The only difference that I see is that I
have a newer kernel installed (2.6.25-rc3-85-default). I don't thik you'll
need that new of a kernel but as the developer probably has a newer one you
may consider updating your kernel.. Add this repository if you feel lucky:

P.S. After running 'make install' just type 'chessdb' to launch from a
terminal or make a shortcut.. Despite other posters (mis)information this
is all you need.

After the make install, which will put the binary in /usr/local/bin, you
might need to run 'hash' so the shell's hash tables are updated and the
new binary found. Or simply start another shell. (In the case of users
of csh or tsch, then they would need to run 'rehash').
