Chessmaster 10th Edition support woes by hemmo666@hotmail.com
Anyone want to buy a copy of Chessmaster 10th? In pristine condition, just one owner before, hardly used at all. Just joking. I bought Chessmaster 10th edition, a Christmas present for myself. The Internet play feature didn't work out of the box, but after registration I got an email saying that patch 1.03 would fix it. Except it didn't. And today, more than a month after my first...

training software by Henri H. Arsenault
Most posters agree that CTArt2 is a great training aid, and I have heartily recommended it. Last week, seeing the positive comments on Personal Chess Trainer, I downloaded the demo and trained with it. I liked it and paid for the full program. At first sight, the early modules look simple, but they gradually build up to more complex tests. Although I have not yet had the opportunity to see if...

COMPUTERS MAKE OLD CHESS OBSOLETE?? by David Richerby
wrote: http://www.news24.com/News24/Technology/News/0,,2-13-1443_1864548,00.html An article entertainingly riddled with errors and inaccuracies. But now that these computers are beating the grand-masters on the average, some of the appeal and mystic of chess is disappearing.

Response to Andrew Zito by Andrew Zito
What civil discussion? The same *******s are rewarding their friends and supporters with USCF money while this federation goes to ****. Answer the damn questions. Why weren't these positions opened to the public? Why must Schultz and company hide the truth? What professional experience does Shahade have? As far as the chess world knows, she has absolutely no experience in being an editor,...

Shahade issue by Ray Gordon
It smells stunningly bad when a board member resigns after his sister got a highly paid position with the USCF. Of course he was the reason why she got the job.

More BS from Schultz by Ray Gordon
More BS from Don Schultz: We did do that for the job of editor. We concluded from those interviews that that we wanted to hire both Jennifer (who i just found out has been offered and accepted) and Dan. Certainly advertising jobs is generally the best way to go. However, in this particular case every member of the Board wanted to

Don Schultz gave Hoffman a $75K a year position by Ray Gordon
Paul Hoffman has been handed Shahade's job of $75,000. He also has zero experience in designing chess websites or chess contents. How typical of Schultz, giving jobs to friends and buddies. WHY WASN'T THE JOB OPENED TO THE PUBLIC IF IT IS SO IMPORTANT??? Schultz is ducking the question as usual.

Purchased CT-ART 3.0 for my laptop.... by John J.
After a few months of using it on my Pocket PC I've decided to go for the big version. I estimate that my playing strength has increased 200 points since getting the Pocket PC version..... Has anyone noticed that it's much harder to solve chess problems on smaller screens than it is with real chess sets? Heck, I bet I could give even Gordo a run for his money in OTB chess. :)

This board is full of conflict of interest by Ray Gordon
The latest scandal with Shahade and Hoffman is just another example of countless conflict of interest issues with this board. Goichberg, President of CCA and USCF. Bad move. Jen Shahade and Hoffman, sister and great friend of Greg Shahade getting high paid insider positions with no specific experience. Another bad move! I urge Schultz and company to resign now if Shahade and Hoffman are hired...

ChessBase 9 and database quality by Tom Williams
I'm trying to create a database in CB9 that will only include games that really matter; i.e. strong games. A major challenge is the lack of ELO ratings for computers, and all games before about 1975. What is the BEST way to assign reasonably accurate ratings to computers and any games before 1975? I know that Fritz has a way to assign ratings to a database, but I

Don Schultz tries to blame others by Ray Gordon
Why wasn't the website content position opened for the public? This is about the USCF, a member organization of 83,000 members, not the Don Schultz and company club. It should have been opened to the public. You blew it again Schultzy! What does it say about the Shahades and their ethics? Chess **** Shahade is willing to allow her brother to resign from his EB position, affecting 83,000 members...

Why is poker getting so much attention and not chess? by Ray Gordon
Statement by Greg Shahade on his resignation from the USCF Executive Board It is with regret that I find myself forced to resign from the Executive Board. According to the USCF bylaws it is impossible for an immediate family member of a EB member to have a paid position within the USCF. In the midst of the Chess Life interviews and hiring decision made by the EB (of which I wasn't a part of...
