Chessmaster personalities by Buller
The README file mentions that the indicated strength ratings were determined on a certain reference machine. Apparently they are not adjusted on the user's machine based on the processor speed using the logarithmic formula, as past Chessmasters, at least 8000, did. Any ideas about how fast that reference machine processor speed was?

capture search depth by Buller
To those with knowledge of chess programming - how many plies of capture (quiescence?) search are included beyond the stated ply? I assume it varies greatly between typical middle game positions and simple endgame positions.

is there any doubt which chess engine is the strongest in the world.... by mate-in-30
I don't think so .... The two flavors of Rybka Beta10d went 28-3-12 against all non Rybka opponents - in this Game/5 with 5 second increment tournament. 3 Losses in just 43 game against some of the best chess programs in the world - Shredder 9, Shredder 8, Fruit, Toga, Ruffian, Rebel 12 etc etc. Rybka has leapfrog the all other chess programs, the likes of which we have seen since the early...

Playing crazyhouse ensures guaranteed exciting play by Alberich
I'm tired of playing regular chess when all you can look foward to are swapping pieces til the dry endgame comes around and just a few pawns left to win the game. And since regular chess is memorized til move 35 to 40...why bother playing chess anymore? I've switched to Crazyhouse. This is the only way to save the game of chess from draw death. Crazyhouse ensures games are fought to the death and...

Multiple Game Analysis in Fritz or CM by Mike & Lisa Nelson
Is there any way in either Fritz 9 or CM10 to load multiple games and have it analyze each game in succession? It would be nice to head to bed, work, etc. and have it crunch the analysis when I don't need the computer. Thanks. Mike

Hi, I'm new and have some questions by Deadchef
Hello... I'm new here and relatively new to chess. I have a bunch of questions regarding the myriad of available software. A friend of mine gave me a program called Chess Mentor deluxe which is not a chessplaying program. I like it, however I'm looking for something to store my games from ICC/OTB tournaments as well as getting a chess program to analyze the positions for me and offer move...

ftp server question by Ruud
There is a ftp nalimov tablebase. Can anyone tell me how to put this to use? Is it meant for downloading? I don't think so, because it doesn't seem to work that way. But can one consult this ftp-information, if needed? ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/

Best commercial chess program for intermediate play and instruction? by chessnut2000
I would like to buy a commercial chess program for intermediate play and instruction. I value function, quality of design, and reliability. And would just as well do without useless gimmicks. I look forward to recommendations from this fine group!

Phalanx XXII - Reborn by José de Paula Rodrigues
Greetings, I've put Dusan Dobes' Phalanx chess engine on Sourceforge.net with a few (cosmetic) changes to make modern GCC (3.2+) happy. Jim Ablett, with deeper changes, ported it to Windows/MSVC++. You can grab it at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/phalanx, both its Unix source code and Ablett's modified Windows source + windows binary.

Questions about ICC by Poupoulenia@gmail.com
Hello, i would like to ask how ICC find out if one uses computer assistance and how can also keep track of a user? I beleive that through its interface which happens to be BlitzIn, it somehow stores specific hardware information so even if one change his/her ip address or even his ICC handle his still able to identify him. How does ICC do that? By hacking our computer?
