Accurate Wikipedia Profile for Sam Sloan by Sam Sloan
Sam Sloan was born a long time ago and who cares about the year. He's most famous for being a chess bum. He has been married 13 times and has 24 known children. We suspect that he has another 30 unknown children somewhere in the far east. He does not pay child support to anyone. Sam Sloan is known for running for the USCF Executive Board 18 times and the USCF members voted him down each time. He...

Just wondering about clustering... by jonathan.beckett
Myself and a few of my colleagues (we're software developers) were wondering how difficult it might be to convert a chess engine to use a clustered machine. The reason we started talking about it was because we saw this on the net... http://www.orionmulti.com/products/specs_ds96 Can you *imagine* how quick that thing would be... with the right

I have been trying for a couple of days to download Chessbase Light at: http://www.chessbase.com/download/cblight/index.asp by clicking the "Register and Download" link. However, instead of the download starting, I get a web page with this message: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Fehler "80040e09'

what is the best evaluation to improve your game? by Magnulus
Would you rather have an incredibly deep evaluation that is very complicated, or a simple evaluation that is easier to follow (perhaps describing the game in more positional terms)? What is the best engine for evaluation to improve your game? Or does strength matter at all, just as long as its a better player than you are? I have a dual core machine. I have Fritz 8 and 9, and Deep Fritz 8...

Crafty + 1gb enomrous.pgn + 7.11gb TB, still took it 35 moves to beat me by casioculture@gmail.com
Is this expected? I haven't checked its king. I lost a queen early on in a masterful move on its part, but still, I would've expected a more overwhelming performance. Had it been human I would've said its personality was sure but conservative. Surely in no rush. Towards the end of the game I had a rock and it had a queen, and

Kryukov's amazing victory - 6 man EGTB sharing by Vincent Diepeveen
Hello to you all, When Kryukov did his post onto the subject of sharing over p2p the 6 men EGTBs, i must admit i was very sceptical. http://kd.lab.nig.ac.jp/chess/tablebases-online/ Sharing a terabyte of 6 men over p2p? Important concerns i had would have been less perhaps, had i known he has grown

Chess training - internet, software... by Olav Nilsen
Hi I'm a reborn chessplayer looking for som good free software, websites etc to improve my play. Last time I was reborn (it seems to happen every five years or so :) ) I found the tutorial on the Chessmaster-game very good. I'm talking about the lectures with Josh Waitzkin (?), where he analyzed games in a very understandable way and he was not going into too deep analysis. It seemed he focused...

Chess Vision Software by Ghen
My son (12 yr old) used it for about a month until he got board of it. He did master many of the skills - call out a square and he can name the color, call out any two squares and he can tell if different, call out any square with a piece and he can tell you what squares that piece attacks. Not sure if it helped his game though - he has been stuck at 1800 uscf for more than 6 months. Ghen

Different Fritz 9 versions/packages? by Jefferson Airplane
I can buy "Fritz Chess 9" from Excalibur Publishing (UK Chessbase distributor) much cheaper than the "standard version" from Chessbase. The specs seem to be exactly the same - including a year's membership to playchess.com. Except on the Excalibur site they don't advertise this: "Chess course for advanced players (3 hrs. video in Chess Media System) a 3-hour tutorial for advanced...
