"No Longer Searching for Bobby Fischer" wins "Best Team Name" Prize at US Amateur Team East Contrary to expectations, the US Amateur Team East Championship, also known as the World Amateur Team Championship, held February 16-18, 2008 in Parsippany NJ, set the attendance record for this type of event. Chess computers seem to be unbeatable :( by dos-man 64
I've been playing chess for a long time. My father taught me how to play when I was a teen. My friends and I have played off and on through the years. Recently, I've been playing most of my games against an Excalibur machine with magnetic pieces. I've also bought some very good literature to supplement my existing strategies. I started off at the lowest level and with each win I crank it up...

GetClub (Beginner) played Rybka till end Game. [51 Moves] by Sanny
Normally Rybka ends the game in Middle game (25-30 moves). But today Beginner Level was able to play till end Game. It took Rybka 51 Moves to win GetClub Beginner Level. Today an improvement was done So Rybka (Hard Level) was unable to Mate in 25-30 Moves as it used to earlier. How many players / Programs has beaten Rybka. I think with the improvement Normal Level may some day win Rybka.

hash table size by dkraft
Hi, How large should the hash table size be? The large the better? Or is 1536 MB wasting hash memory? And is 512 MB enough? Thanks Dieter

Truong Digs Hi Hole Deeper by samsloan
From chessdiscussion.com by PaulTruong on Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:56 pm "As this situation progressed, more wrong doing took place which directly / indirectly pointed at specific individuals. The board majority refused to investigate the leads we provided. There were more specific leaks and misconducts. Sloan answered the motion to dismiss with some confidential information which we...

Grandmaster or Highest Rating by Draw? by pialogue
Theoretically speaking, if my personal goal was to achieve a draw in EVERY game that I played (as stupid or ill-advised as that may sound to most people), then what is the highest chess rating that I could possibly achieve and is it theoretically possible to be a Grandmaster having never won OR lost a game?

Why Rybka Won GetClub An Analysis. by Sanny
I found that When Playing with Rybka it was processing the Moves on a fast Server. A server is 15-20 times faster than a Desktop where Applet is loaded. I got below Information from a Website "There are certain workstation models on the market with a total of eight cores today. With each core able to perform 5.2 gigaflops (5.2 billion floating-point operations per second) as a measure of peak

Man vs. Machine by J.D. Walker
Hello Chess Friends, One of the very strong GMs that plays on ICC goes by the handle of "Goldmund." He is actually Alexander Rustemov from Russia. He is one of the few, the proud, the daring humans to take on Rybka at blitz. Lately, he has been playing at a time control of 3 minutes with an increment of 5 seconds. Like "Smallville" (AKA Hikaru Nakamura), he is conversant with the...

Fritz 9 question by fvghjk
In the engine management window the engines Fritz Giveaway and Mate 2.0 are displayed but they don't show up in the window "change chess engines." How would I fix this? Also, how do I download other engines to use? Just put them in the "Engines" folder? Thanks

Fritz, engine off by default by Paul Stivers[_2_]
I use Fritz 9, 80% of the time as a manual analysis board. For this purpose I switch the engine off (Engine, Switch off engine), but every time I load a new position, and sometimes I think if I edit the PGN in certain ways, the engine starts up again. Very annoying. Even if I go to Engines, Engine Management, and make all the engines inactive, the 5.32 engine still starts up! Is there...
