Fritz for fun, not Fischer! by
Ruud H.
With this my excuses for starting a Fischer-discussion on
computerchess-newsgroup. I only recently discovered the group
rec.games.chess.politics., which comes closer (maybe
rec.games.chess.psychobabbel is an idea).
My Fritz 8 is fine, but I was wondering if anyone knows something about
Fritz for Fun. Which version of Fritz is this?

Junior 8 confirms patzer move by
Adrian MacNair
After making a blunder in a drawn position, I loaded up Junior to see where
I went wrong. Imagine my surprise when Junior 8 suggested the same blunder
as I made!!

Difference in Fritz versions? by
Gil Cintron
All,
From everything I have read Fritz is THE program to have if I want to be
serious about computer chess. I currently have Chessmaster 10 and think it
is fine, but I can see how Fritz might handle database imports and analysis
better.
My question is when I go to chessbase.com to check out Fritz I get this:

Thought process by
SKyWalker
hello,
I have posted a few of my games here around a month back, and i have had
quite a lot of valuable advice from these groups.
Based on one of the leads i have got from here, i was checking out the Dans
Novice Nook column in Chess Cafe. Dan says after Tactical patterns, the next
best thing to work on are (1) Thought process and (2) Time Mgmt.
Now that i have had my rounds with Bains book...

ChessBase9 problems (HELP !) by
Gilles Garrigues
1. One of my machines (Pentium4 1.5Mz, 512Mo RAM) runs under Win98SE.
CB9 seems to suck all the ressources and openings 2 ou 3 windows (as in
"player dossier" or "opening report") brings the available system
ressources down to close to nill ! CB8 and CB7 run fine on my machine...
So far CB9 seems OK on my other machine with WinXP SP1 (but see point
2).
Anyone having the same problem ?

Kaspy to retire from Chess by
Chuck
Hard to believe he is retiring from Chess to pursue politics. Wonder who is
going to step up to fill his shoes?
Is he going to resign his title? How is that going to work?

Fischer doesn't deserve this help by
Ruud H.
Fischer battered the Russians when he still played. After that jews and
Americans are to blame for everything that is wrong in his life. Now the
Japanese are the Bad ones. Meanwhile he looks like a hobo and it seems to me
he supported several criminal governments (Yugo, Terrorists blowing up WTC).
Iceland helps him now, but why?
I played his games many times and I admire his play, but nowadays...

Where can I buy Chessbase 8 for cheap? by
Wahooka
Now that CB 9 is out, I figured the price would come down on CB 8 but
it hasnt. I just need a stand alone copy, I already have the big 2002
database discs... But all they sell are these expensive mega packs
for $150.00. Where can I get a good price for cb 8? Or perhaps Id
buy 7 for a good price...

Junior 9 ruins chess fonts by
Alberich@somewhere.com
I just wanted to post this as I've received my copy of Junior 9 today
and installed it...to my almost shocking horror because this version
wipes out the figurine notation capability from the fonts on your
computer.
When I installed it...I had no other choice but install it...there is
no eng file to drop into the Chessbase directory anymore...I tried to
find it on the CD...but it's not there. So...

Using ChessBase by
Ray Johnstone
I store games I've played in tournaments in separate files. eg:
C:\cb60\Frem\2004\ClubChamp
for last year's club chamionship.
Is there a quick way of retrieving all games against a particular
player in several tournaments? And is there a better way of organising
databases to make such a job easier?

SCID question : Opening training with tree window by
pgeorges
SCID can be used for opening training with the tree window, but
unfortunately, it does not use the different variations present in each
game. A workaround could be to generate a separate game for each
variation, but this is a long task (I don't know if there is already a
function for this), and I want both to have the main lines with
variations in each game for learning, and to be able to train...
