Fritz Penetration by
Ham String
Now that Fritz is being sold at consumer outlets, is there any word on
Fritz's market penetration v. Chessmaster? Chessmaster has historically
been the product with broad consumer appeal, while Fritz had more of a
niche.

programming a GUI for a standalone win32 exe file by
Peter Müller
Hi,
I have here a *.exe commandline driven console chess software for
win32. Since this software is difficult to handle, I would like to
create a GUI for this program. I want to edit already existing PGN
files and I would like to setup a new PGN file with the help of a
chess diagram. Since I need fairy pieces, too, I can not use Winboard.
Are there any code snippets which I could use as template...

internet interface templates in unix by
cairpre409@yahoo.com
Having only modest scripting knowledge there is something that does not
make sense to me that I thought someone in this group could explain.
It is more of an interface than chess specific question.
It seems to me that the basic problems of writing an xwindows interface
to game server are fundimentally the same for all board and many other
games. Boards are drawn and updated, commands and...

Chess Assistant 7 - enter new game with headers from existing game by
Jonathan Berry
I can't figure out how to do this common task: how to take an existing
game, then enter a new game with the same headers.
The best I've discovered so far is to open the game window of the game
whose headers are to be copied, right click on the move area, Copy
to Clipboard Game as PGN. Then ^N to input a new game, right click
on the moves area, Paste from Clipboard Game/position from...

TheKing 3.23 in Junior by
Adrian MacNair
I can get CM9000 to play in the Junior GUI but in engine matches it plays
each move in milliseconds. I want it to take its time and think in long
games. How can I acheive this? What is the parameter?

ARENA with SOS.4 by
Robert Norton
I recently downloaded ARENAand SOS but I'm puzzled as to why the response
time is so slow. I have a fast modern Dell PC but this software takes a
minute or more to decide on a move in a routine opening. Whats happening?

Forester
Hi
I just bought a sony vaio k415b and loaded on my version of Fritz 8. But when I came to log on to Playchess.com i keep getting a message saying that the server has timed out, and that the server is down. Now I know it's not because I can still log on with my work laptop.
Anyone got an idea what I need to do (is it a fire wall thing/slow connection/etc.)?

Software that can randomize tactics PGNs by
whuang5716
Hi everyone. I was hoping that someone could help me with this
question.
I love training chess tactics, endgames, and other "problem" type
positions. I've downloaded thousands of them, and have even made
hundreds more from my own games. While I've got them organized on a
Chessbase database, the reality is that without getting them thrown at
me in RANDOM order, I can't really "train" them as they...

Fidelity Phantom 6100 Vs. 6126 - I own both by
Dick Schneiders
I recently purchased a Phantom 6100 on eBay and it is certainly a lot of fun. A week or so later I saw a mint condition Phantom 6126 on eBay, that has the voice module and the "Eyeballs". It is a much rarer version, and so I decided that I had to have it, no matter the cost.
I am not a very good chess player and the 6100 is difficult for me to beat even at the lowest level, A1. Of course,...

Filtering in Fritz/Chessbase by
Mallwyd
I have no luck filtering on only the number of moves and can find no help on
the topic. (no help from CB is another issue!)
I check the moves box and enter say 20-30 moves in the text window but
nothing appears in the search result. There are certainly moves with that
length range.
Suggestions?

Mate in two... Turing is better ;) by
DamirCo
Just kidding... Software version of Turing paper chess engine (as it's
original version) is very bad in evaluation, comparing to modern chess
engines, but here was better than Fritz:
FEN: 8/2N1K1N1/2pP1Pp1/2P1k1P1/2r1P1r1/2P3P1/4R2B/Q7 w - - 0 1
Analysis by Turing:
1.Qb2 Rxc5 2.c4#
+- (#2) Depth: 4 00:00:02

Help! Chess tournament by
Dave Stanley
I have recently been asked to help in the setting up of a tournament with 3
other teams. I have been called in late and asked to help with a bit of a
pickle. There are 4 teams total, all with 10 players (40 in total). The
person who organised this was wondering if there is a way to have a knock
out with this amount of players and here is the stinger, the finalist needs
to be found within 2hours....
