Recording the best moves in alpha beta search. by RohiT
Hi, I have been reading a lot of material on the alpha beta search algorithm. Till now all the algorithms have detailed on how to find the best score at a given depth. I wanted to know how can one keep track of the moves made to reach that score? Thanks. Rohit

Fritz8 missing serial number by jonbeckett73
Hi all, While out doing the usual PC upgrades/repairs of my father's computer while visiting at Christmas, I picked up a copy of Fritz 8 from his local PC superstore for myself. While messing around with it last night I discovered that PlayChess requires a serial number to be entered that should be on the front of the book... guess what - no such number :)

Rebel 12 (DOS) refuses to run... by Major Cat
I have recently downloaded the latest freeware version of Rebel for DOS (Ver. 12). I attempted to run it under DOS 6.22 on a DX33-486 PC with 20M of RAM. The program just displays the opening graphics screen with the hourglass and immediately exits with the message "Illegal Interrupt #06" followed by a matrix of register values. On this PC, interrupt #06 is owned by the System ROM that starts at...

Mac Hiarcs strength by Henri Arsenault
Since this is the only strong program for the Mac and I recommend it, I hate to say this, but like the original Hiarcs program for the palm, the strength levels for the Mac hiarcs seem way off. Here is a Fischer 2-12 blitz game with the AI strength set at 1250 (the parentheses are the evaluations by the program after the game and the number of nodes analyzed):

source code for Bookup/ChessBase? by Mike Leahy
I don't think you'll ever see an offer for source code on a ChessBase or Chess Assistant web site. :) The Bookup source code is available to programmers who want to learn how to integrate chess engines, parse PGN, do chess graphics, etc. Details are at http://www.bookup.com/programmers.htm Mike Leahy "The Database Man!"

CB9 problem by sjc
When I press F10 to load another game, in any database, it automatically starts from where I finished viewing the other one e.g. if I decide to play say 10 moves from a game press F10 the next game starts at move 10. Happens with every database. Any ideas?
