Looking for a weak engine by
Karp
I'm a beginner, and although I know that I can learn from
losing, I would like to win a game once in a while. The
problem is I have Fritz 8, and it is too strong for me.
There are handicap settings, but they play more like a
master who is letting me win, than a weak player trying his
best.
Can anyone point me to an engine that doesn't make blunders,
but isn't very good?

possible glitch or oversight in gnuchess by
ted holden
I normally open (as white) p-K4 like Bobby Fischer does (that's the entire
extent of any resemblence of my game to Fischer's), and the latest version
of gnuchess seems to want to reply either with center-counter or kn-c6. In
the later case, I've discovered what appears to be a fairly easy and
consistent way to beat the thing, e.g.
1. e4 Nc6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 a6 4. h3 Bf5 5. f4 e6 6. Nf3 Bb4+ 7. c3...

If you had budget for only one PalmOS chess software, which one would you buy? by
Jose Antonio
I've been checking ChessGenius, ChessTiger and Hiarcs. They all look
very good but I don't know really which one is the best to improve in
chess.
I'm not really interested in how strong they are, since all of them
will beat me. What I want is to play good chess, learn a bit and have
a good time.
Any suggestions based in your experience?

installing shredder on amd 64 laptop by
niels
Just bought a new laptop with amd 64 3700+ cpu and 1GB ram. Tried to
install shredder 7 but everytime i load the program i get an error
message: not enough memory. I can't change the engine without crashing
the program. I tried to contact chessbase support and they mailed me a
improved 704 engine, but the result is the same. The prog runs on my
old celeron desktop without any problems. Any...

Transposition Table and Fine#70 by
Orhan ?zt?rk
I have a running program. It runs well without transposition tables.
When i add transposittion table i face some problems.
* I choose some middle-game positions.The search scores with/without
TT are always same(These are fixed-depth searches.I have no Iterative
deepening at the moment.I do a direct search).Sometimes PVs are
changing. But this is ok ,because TT affects move orders...

Any 64-bit chess engines out there? by
Gian-Carlo Pascutto
Thomas T. Veldhouse wrote:
Will Crafty run as a native 64-bit application if compiled on a 64-bit
system with a 64-bit toolchain?
Yes
Any commercial software support this yet?
Quite a few I imagine, I'm sure mine does. The problem is that there is
no public 64-bit Windows, so there's no audience to sell them to.
