The 200 Best Of... by WalterE
One month ago the new database COMP2004 was introduced to the first time: http://f23.parsimony.net/forum50826/messages/111087.htm or later http://www.beepworld.de/members38/eigenmann/50besteprogrammier.htm Now "COMP2004" was improved and expanded. It contains more than 137'000(!) games (years 2000-2004) from many users worldwide only at longer time control (30min++/Engine).

Portable chess computer by Mark Fisher
Hi all I am looking for a portable chess computer. The type you play on a screen, not the onew with actual pieces and board.. It should preferably use a stylus/touch screen to move the pieces. I have seen a few, but the pieces on screen seem really strange, hard to tell a bishop from a pawn etc. Are there any where the pieces look like magazine/book diagrams? Thanks

Chessmaster 7000 game setup by Hank B.
I was given Chessmaster 7000 along with some books by a friend .Is there anyway on Chessmaster 7000 one can setup a position from a diagram in the book and move the pieces for black and white so as to reproduce the game being described rather than having the computer take over and make moves? -- Hank

The origins of chess by Jestrada
Or is there a maximum length for a post perhaps? In my post I had attempted to paste a fairly lengthy article by GM Gregory Topov (first posted on another newsgroup I think). It was the one where he introduces and explains what he calls the "original" form of chess. He defends the rather bizarre thesis that chess as we know it is merely a simplified form of Stanley Random Chess (SR Chess), and...

The origins of chess by Jestrada
I posted a message earlier to these groups and it didn't show up. Is there some kind of filter in these chess newsgroups that eliminates posts with certain key words? If so, who controls the filter? -Jestrada

beat (c) 1600 but human 1600 almost impossible by Tinklemagoo
I can usually beat CM9000 personalites fairly easily up to around 1700 in 5min or more games. But when online I can barely beat humans over say 1300 in 5 min games. Is online cheating rife or are (c) personalites so dumbed down they just dont play realistically.

Historical Origins of Stanley Random Chess by Gregory Topov
The origins of Stanley Random Chess have been the subject of debate by scholars for century. In his last article, GM Topov provides some personal insights on this controversial subject. Contrary to popular belief, the origins of Stanley Random Chess (SR Chess) are in fact evolutionary in nature. Although I am a fierce opponent of Darwin's theory of evolution and do not for a moment give any...

A young coder's chess toy by jadenbane
Hey there, I think it is safe to assume that there is there are a fair number of computer programmers lurking here. If there any who would be interested in giving input to a chess program I want to write, I would love some feedback. I am thinking about coding a chess "vision" or "geometry" trainer that will help new players learn notation, configuration, moves, foresight, etc. Right now (as far...

Winboard and Crafty for Pocket PC by Rudy Lopez
Has anybody ported these to Mobile Windows? I just bought a Dell Axim and totally love the toy. Chess software plays a really good game on the device. Pocket Grandmaster chess has a port of the Ruffian engine available. I'd really like to see an internet chess club client for Pocket PCs. There seems to be a real void for Pocket PC chess database programs.

Need rating CM2000 on a 386-25 by Chuck
Anybody have information on what the rating would be for Chessmaster 2000 running on a 386-25 DOS 6.22 machine with 8-megs of ram? I'm trying to make an old 386-25 good for a fun little chess machine for a local school.
