Fritz Shootout by Jud McCranie
I've had Fritz 8 for a week or so. One thing I like to do a lot is have it play both sides of a position, using 10-15 seconds per move. I haven't been able to find a good way to do this. For instance, if it is a position from one of my games in the database, I 1. get to the position 2. go to New/ Position setup 3. change the number of moves to zero (otherwise it seems to count

Variations in pgn/mychess/WinBoard by DDEckerslyke
I'm using the Mychess viewer for our club's website. I've only put two games up so far but I really like the feature and so do other members of the club. It is incredibly simple to use but I have now run into the problem of inputting variations. So far what I've done is play through the game in WinBoard, save it as a pgn, and then publish it but I can't see how to get variations into WinBoard....

Searching simple opensource chess program by Paul Pichota
Hi there! For a university project I want to compare different algorithms (minimax, alpha-beta and some variants). So I am looking for rather simple and working opensource program where I can easily exchange the algorithms. I have already tried GNU Chess but the search routine is rather complex because of various prunings, heuristics etc. Thank you,

Fritz 8 Openings Index question by SlowHand
Fritz 8 - in the manual and help file it says: "The program can create an openings key based on the ECO code. In the database window, click New – Openings index and choose “Fine” for the openings index. If you choose “coarse” instead, you will get a less formal classification with well-known names like “Sicilian”, “Pirc”, “French Defence”, etc." However - I can't see how to do that. There is no...

SCID - has Shane stopped developing lately - I am behind the times here by keithnospam@gosfordchess.com
SCID doesn't seem to have news beyond April 2004 when it was mentioned the reason for a short absence at *that* time ... any info appreciated, I hopr it is just that I was looking at an old cached page or something as I liked it. Keith

fritz 8 various versions by jhaber
I have seen various versions of Fritz 8( deluxe vs championship) with prices as low as $30 for the deluxe and $43 or more for the championship. Comments refer to new championship bilbao engine. Is this a marketing ploy of are there significant diffrences warrranting such disparity?

Ultimate Game Collection, Somewhat Less Than Ultimate? by Kevin L. Bachler
Here's what Chess4Less says on their website: “Ultimate Game Collection 5 with the following improvements: 2.5 Million Games on the database Duplications under 0.5%” I just cleaned up the database. It started with 2,809,549 games, and had 1,220,270 duplicates. That’s 43.4%! NOT under 0.5% --
