Non-Grandmaster Games by
Alessandro Gagliardi
I'm looking for pgn files of games played between people other than
grandmasters. Specifically, I would like games played between Class
E, Class C, Class A, and Master players. Does anyone know where I
might find such things?
Thank you in advance,

Another Scandal involving "Volunteer of the Month" by

Regarding Gregory Alexander, as he himself states, most of his
"volunteer" work was done before he became a USCF member. I do not see
how work by a non-member can be considered for USCF "Volunteer of the
Month". Will we be considering Larry Parr, Phil Innes, Rob Mitchell
and Tom Dorsch for this award...

Engine Test Position (English A33) by
Martin Brown
I was analysing an opening position with multiple lines displayed in
Shredder and Rybka and observed some curious jumps in the evaluation
function depending on the parity of side to move. I ran Shredder for
about 24 hours and Rybka for 4 days. The position is from the English
opening A33 :
r1bq1rk1/pp1p1ppp/2n1pn2/8/1bPN4/2N3P1/PP2PPBP/R1BQ1RK1 b - - 0 8
With black to move. Conventional wisdom...

Biased appointments to the moderation teams? by
samsloan
I am glad that we agree 100% on this for a change, a rare occurrence.
The appointment of moderators Herbert Rodney Vaughn a/k/a tanstaafl,
Gregory Alexander and Tim Sawmiller, who have long been known to be
vehemently hostile and who have taken a definitive stand against two
of our EB members, Sam Sloan and Beatriz Marinello, is indeed
outrageous, especially when Vaughn, Alexander and Sawmiller...

What type of End Game are Drawn? by
Chess One[_2_]
Sanny, here are 2 useful exercises you can conduct to explore what are
called MAMS studies.
I would like you to set up 2 positions, and see if your program can solve
them - they are called Kling&Horwitz Fortresses.
Evidently Timman understood this well enough, since the first GM win was
over Speelman 1992 Linares.

Does anyone recognize this old chess-computer description? by
x@y.zzz
I've been searching the Web, trying to identify a handheld chess
computer I had - I'd say about the early '80s - but having no luck. I
got it at a used-items store (pointed out so you know it wasn't new
when I bought it).
It was an LED model that ran on a 9-volt battery, and came with a
separate chess set, with the metal, algebraic-notation board on the
outside of a fold-up wooden box to store...

New version of ScidPocket by
Pascal
Hi,
I released a new version of ScidPocket (chess database and playing
program) with some optimisations that makes all 6 embedded engines
compute 60% to 100% more nodes per second. My guess is that the achieved
ELO should be at least 2500 for some engines.

Note that to take advantage of this improvement, the settings should be

FREE Online Games Beta Testers Wanted by
Beta Testers!
I'm looking for volunteers each week to test the uVme games platform and was
hoping that some of you might be interested in playing some great online
games for free.
The site access will be free of charge and there will be no joining fees
etc!
The company in fact deposits "play" credits into your e-wallet to do this.
Also, most importantly there is no obligation whatsoever and all I need is...

mamer and similar programs by
Giancarlo Bassi
Hi all!
mamer is an acronymous for MAnage ME R.
It is a program on Internet Chess Server acting as
referee in chess tourneys on the internet.
It looks very nice.
I found easily the sources , for OS Linux, mamer.tgz
but it's not portable and I couldn't compile it.

Chess Titans freeware on Vista and Kasparovs in-flight chess programare so weak by
raylopez99
In Microsoft Vista OS there is a free game is called "Chess Titans",
which, at the highest level, even a class C player can regularly
beat. And the crummy program doesn't even allow you to save games, it
just tracks how many games you've won. What a joke. 3D graphics are
nice however. Likewise for Kasparov's sponsored program that you find
on some Boeing 777 airplanes--even at the highest...

ChessBase 9 and Vista incompatible? by
raylopez99
I'm having problems running CB9 under Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
It was the only program of many that was flagged by the Vista
Installer as possibly incompatible, and, even when run under XP
emulation mode, the program is very slow.
Running under a top of the line E6550 core 2 duo chip.
Also the programmers of the "Big Database 2007" tried some tricks that
make it difficult to view the DVD under...

I can't find documentation on this anywhere.
