Another simple question about Chess Assistant by FesterBesterTester
I want to build a direct tree from a dataset: how can I give it a name diferent from the main base? At the moment the last way I see is saving the dataset as a new base, convert to direct tree and delete it. Thanks.

Comments on Excalibur Alexandra talking chess computer by Chuck
With a playing strength of around 2000, and for $9.00 to $69.00 U.S. in most places this seems like a fun computer to have. Anybody own or have played the Excalibur Alexandra the Great talking Chess computer? Thoughts, comments, ease of use and play, quality, durability? Or for pretty much the same price, I can get a SAITEK MEPHISTO CHESS CHALLENGER COMPUTER or a SAITEK MEPHISTO TALKING CHESS...

Mate pattern 2 bishops in CB8 by Henk van Weersel
Hello, I am searching fore the algorytme to find mate patterns with 2 bishops in a huge chessbase database. All other pieces are possible. Only the bishops have to do the mating. In CB 8 you can search fore mates and positions, so it should be possible . I can't figure out yet. Has anyone a clue how the settings in the search pattern should be. Any help would be welcome. The original manual...

Fritz on Mac Virtual PC 7 by Henri Arsenault
I installed Fritz8 on Virtual PC 7 with XP Pro on my Mac G5 at the office (I am retired, so that is OK), and the program works, except for crashing within ten seconds when on infinite analysis. On the other hand the Fritz 5.32 engine of Fritz 8 doesn't seem to crash (it reaches about 10 moves deep), and I had it analyze as much as 12 moves deep. I could log in to Chessbase (where I am already a...

Just got my CB9 Upgrade Today! Whoohooo! by Rrb828
Much to my suprise, I received my upgrade copy of ChessBase 9.0 today. I really didn't think I'd have gotten it this quickly, as I wasn't given any indication as to when it would ship, if it even had been shipped,...etc. After cobbling together a DVD-ROM drive on my primary computer (CB9 requires a DVD-ROM and I had to network a buddies laptop onto my own to be able to install) I got it up and...

RISC 2500 by Brad Short
Hi, I'm looking for anyone who has and wants to sell one of the old RISC 2500's. I'm also interested in a Mephisto Berlin Pro. These computers are old but still very strong by stand-alone computer standards. We all like to play with the latest and greatest programs like Deep Fritz or Deep Junior, but most of us would still have our heads handed to us by either one of these older machines....

Please don't talk about politcs here! by Rudy Lopez
I have seen another newsgroup become consumed with political discourse at the expense of the official topic. It can get to the point a newsgroup becomes refuted as if it were being spammed by porn. It is safe to say that some of us feel strongly about both sides of the recent election. There are more appropriate forums to express that in.

Stupid Americans! by Good Moves aren't worth BEANS!
"Nonyz" wrote in message ... Some would call you naive, maybe even foolish for making such sweeping generalizations about so many Americans. 1 out of 20 rattlesnakes won't bite either. It doesn't make one "foolish", or "naive" to make a generalization about rattlesnakes. It makes good practical sense.

Dedicated Chessplaying Supercomputers on the Way? by Brandon
I note with some interest that the new "world's fastest supercomputer", IBM's "Blue Gene/L", is surprisingly small (2,500 sq. ft footprint!), and very energy-efficient. I'm glad to see that supercomputing is making gains in these areas as well as in...
