Random move generation by idfx
What is the most likely outcome of a game in which *legal* moves would be randomly generated? Probably a draw, but did anybody ever test this with a computer? How difficult would it be to modify an existing software so that it generates such moves (i.e. replace the evaluation function with something random, I believe)?

Chessmaster 10th - Copy Protection? by Betsy Schwartz
What does the newest Chessmaster 10th have for copy protection? Does it require the CD? If so is there a crack? I'm pretty happy with Chessmaster 9000 and it would be a real "downgrade" to go back to needing a CD to play. thanks Betsy (with legal game and messy desk)

Rebel12 DOS 386-25 8meg "UNSUCCESSFUL" by Chuck
Greetings chess fans!! As most of you might have read, for the past week I have been attempting to run REBEL12 DOS V12.00.02 JAN 04 on an old 386-25mhz DOS v6.22 machine with 8megs of ram. The manual for Rebel 12 DOS indicated that the minimum requirements to run Rebel 12 DOS were a 386 CPU, VGA card, DOS, and 8-megs of ram. Well after a weeks worth of trying I have been unable to get it to...

How does one report a bug to the UBISOFT Chessmaster people? by Nimrod
Technical support has absolutely ZERO interest in hearing about bugs in the chess engine. They directed me over to the CM 10 Forum which mainly puts you in contact with other users of the program. Other people hear have been complaining about how the game makes strange blunders sacrificing material for no apparent reason other than to throw the game. I encountered a similarly strange occurance...

Fritz vs. Chessmaster for practice? by Jussi Jaatinen
Hi all, Does anyone have opinions, if Fritz is worth the extra price they charge over Chessmaster? In the rankings the CM engines seem to be weaker than Fritz but both are amply stronger than I am, so that shouldn't be an issue. In fact, the important point would be that the engine could be handicapped to play at less-than-full strength (so I don't lose every time!), the software should have...

My wish list for Palm HIARCS by pgeorges
I recently got HIARCS for my Palm (Tungsten E), and I think those modifications should be interesting : - The queen in the piece chess set "challenger" looks too much like the king (the chessgenius chess set is far more readable). The "challenger" pieces look too fat ; - I'd like to save games in different databases. there is no need of nested directories but at least to categorize easily games...

CM 10th and 3D Glasses by J Jeff
When I got my CM 10th edition, and saw that it came with a pair of el-cheapo 3D glasses, I thought this was a silly novelty. But then I tried 'em! I haven't used chessmaster since 5000, so I don't know if this is a new feature or not, but I *love* the effect. With my 21" monitor, and the classic wood staunton pieces, I can almost feel the grain of the wood. I enjoy the effect so much that I...

cheating using Shredder 8 by Hotoy Fukaka
I play chess on an internet chess website and I cheat. I use shedder 8 to make my moves, however, it is not doing so good recently. I know there are others out there who also use a computer program to make moves on the internet chess sites. Can someone please advise me as to what setting I should put Shedder 8 on so that it is unbeatable?? My computer is 3.2 MGZ with 1 gig of RAM.

Chess programs for an old 386-25mhz? by Chuck
I have just been given a fully functional Compact 386 25mhz with Windows 3.11 and 8 megs of ram with a 120mb hard drive. After enjoying a nostalgic trip back in time playing with Windows 3.11, I started trying to figure out what I could do to make this machine useful in some way. I decided that I would do what I can to turn it into a nice little chess machine and was wondering what programs...
