Fritz8: 38 - Shredder8: 2 by
Psiloz
Can someone explain that? Set up a 40 game match before bed last night, both
with 512Mbyte Hash Tables running on Pentium IV 3.2GHz. I woke up expecting
a closer match than the 38-2 thrashing Fritz 8 dealt out to Shredder 8. No
draws, and the 2 games Shredder 8 won were when it was playing white.
Game format was the default Fritz Blitz 4' 2". Perhaps I'll try the long
game, as the engines...

Chessmaster 10th Edition by
Nonyz
Chessmaster for kids, IMO.
Same old **** in a new package... No Staunton 2D pieces either, if the
demo is anything to go by. As for online play, it's going to be
infested with kids/rookies/cheats, because of the newbie segment the
program caters to.
All in all a good buy if you've never used a newer Chessmaster version
but if you own anything starting from CM 6000, you can safely give
this...

Shredder Classic vs Shredder 8 by
Akorps666
What's the difference between "Shredder Classic" and "Shredder 8"?
Shredder Classic looks like a good deal at $30 but if Shredder 8 is
stronger I'd rather have that instead

Copy protected programs on SunPCi card. by
Dr. David Kirkby
I'm tring to install a bit of software on a SunPCi card. Much against
my better judgement, I bought this piece of software which is
protected by a product from Macrovision. The basic idea of the
protection system is that you need to occassionly insert the original
disk in the CD-ROM drive of the computer. (I assume you can't copy the
original in a CD burner).
The problem I'm having is that the...

PALM Chess by
Eric Hallsworth
I've finally got some early but presentable Palm CHESS pages up on my
website!
As most folk probably know I do the opening book work for HIARCS, so it
is the arrival of Palm HIARCS with its medium and large versions of my
Book, now joining combat with Palm Genius and Palm Tiger that has
energised me into action!
I am certain that Palm HIARCS is quite a lot stronger than the other two

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by
Guy Macon
Since no one strong wants to take on Bobby at fischerandom, despite his
repeated challenges to all comers (in three separate radio interviews with
Radio Bomba), Bobby has taken the battle to them. Playing as he does,
shuffling K and Q on the backrank (and I have games where more pieces are
shuffled too - one in which at the end of the opening, all White's pieces
are back on the first...

says...
Absolutely. I don't really care whether it's Fischer or
not, but I would really like to see ANYBODY win a game
against a strong opponent after moving his king out in the
first few moves.
Try it with a strong chess program playing the side that
moves the king out and the time controls set to blitz.

recommend a palm device? by
TommyBoy
There is a lot to pick from. So far I know that OS5 is a good choice,
but not much more. Since I'd like to mainly use it for a good game I
figure I could strip away some devices with the advice here.
E.G. Would a b/w display not go with some playing software?
A Pocket PC would be great but probably too costly for just chessing
around at my level ( A solid USCF 2300-2400 is enough I think-- if...

Any Good Teaching S/W for Kids by
Raymond Yeung
I'm looking for a good S/W program for my 5+ years old. She seems
facinated by the game. Currently we already have "Learn to Play
Chess".
She already knows rules on moving all pieces, mate with 1 King and 2
rooks,
castling. Needs help on things like pin, fork, etc standard tactics.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
