Publishing with chessbase8 by
Deschapelles
As you can see at http://perso.wanadoo.fr/jmrw/Chess/Kasparian/base.htm
chessbase8 can produce nice presentations of games.
But I would like to have figurines instead of RCFT (in french) or other
letters in other languages.
So it would be multi-language.
Does anyone have a solution ?
Thanks

Mike Leahy spams newsgroups to sell chess database by
@ .
"Usenet being what it is, if you participate in newsgroups
at all over a period if time you have the possibility of
attracting your own personal lunatic, who considers any
disagreement a personal affront, and considers it their
duty and obligation to "expose" the person they fixate on.
It's kind of pathetic, but they can't quite seem to figure
out why no one else sees their actions as...

Gambit settings for Chess Tiger are a joke by
Sidney
Ok, I'm not insulting chess tiger itself, since I happen to think it's a great
engine and one of the best out there, but as far as its "gambit" settings, they
are a joke.
Do NOT buy chess tiger thinking you're going to get some gambiting, brilliant
combination seeking program, it does not do this. The "gambit suicidal" and
"gambit aggressive" settings are silly. They might as well call it:...

chess computer recommendations? by
ton theon
Greetings.
i currently have Saitek's Kasparov Team-Mate chess computer, and it's
already quite old, so i was wondering if newer ones would have
significant improvements in the ways they play, or is there no
advantage in getting a newer model? Save for the improved features
like digital displays etc which i don't really need (but wouldn't
mind, either...would be nice if the computer remembered...

Sargon-II misc. questions by
Robert Richter
Years ago, I had an Atari 800 with Sargon-II. I recently started
reading about how computers play chess. I recently read about how
computers play chess and had some questions about how it played;
mostly curiosity; since I don't have access to this old game to see
how it does.
Question 1: Does it do alpha-beta pruning?
Question 2: Does it do any other form of pruning? Null search
pruning? ...

extensions by
Jean-François GAZET
Good morning,
i'm trying to add extensions to my engine. I'm using a classical alphabeta
function :
int alphabeta(int depth, int alpha, int beta)
depth is dicreased 1 by 1 :
eval=-alphabeta(depth-1,-beta,-alpha);
At the beginning at the function alphabeta(), if king is incheck, i do
++depth. This works fine.

transposition tables and quiescence by
Tommy
Hello,
My program has a transposition table and quiescence search but I only
probe/store things from/to the transposition table when I am in the normal
alphabeta search and not when I am in the quiescence search. Is it possible
to use transposition tables also in the quiescence? how?
Thanks in advance,
Tommy

Rich Hebda
I'm a beginner at chess ( have been playing for about a year) and would like
to
start studying tactics. I have Fritz 7 and would like to know if there is
any way
to practice tactics or do I need to buy other software such as CT ART 3.0.
I have read Winning Chess Tactics but would like to practice on my computer.
Thanks

Pairing progs by
Anders Lang
I need help finding a good pairing program handling fide-swiss with or
without modifications. It must be fully windows compatible i.e. user
configurable with regards to printing fonts, different codepages etc. It
also must support different types of tie-breaking systems (Bucholtz,
progress, lot etc.).
If there is anyone out there who knows of a good program please let me know.

Help !! font problem in CB8 by
Gilles Garrigues
I use ChessBase 8 under Win98 without any problem. I just bought a new
computer running under WinXP and installed CB8 with all the fonts ...
But I am having the following problem : if now I want to insert a
diagram in the notation (text after move/ctrl + D) the familiar "knight
in a square" icon does not appear ; instead I have in the comment window

In playing against Shredder8, I traded down to a Knight and King

moves until it asked for a draw. Has anyone else had this experience?

Transposition tables2 by
Tommy
I have also noticed that if I load a mate in 7 puzzle and then solve it in a
few minutes, then start a new game a play it all, then I load the mate in 7
puzzle again, the chess program still remembers the solution (from the TT)
and plays the correct move immediately.... I thought that with always
replace, after more than a billion nodes (on a much smaller TT) the TT would
not be able to retain...
