Help for Newsmail by Margaret Thatcher
Advice for Newsmail and all the other trolls with whom you share both genitalia and a morbid obsession with bottoms. Hi Newsmail, I do hope that you don't mind me using that name, you use so many I am not sure how you would like to be addressed. If you want to persuade people on this newsgroup that you are a responsible adult and not a sexually frustrated kid who hates homosexuals because he...

Shredder 8 bug? by Grant
There have been reports here that Shredder 8 has some serious bugs, especially when analyzing games. Is this true? Someone here suggested that the software plays "give-away chess" and that the analyses it produces are often, but not always, junk. (My "give-away chess" skills need no improvement!)

For example, it might say, "bishop takes e4--e4--e4-e4." I can live with it, but is there a fix for it? Wilma

CM 9000 by B. W.
Newbie here. Just got CM 9000. Is the Ubisoft.com site the only place to play online or are there other private sites like those that exist for Links 2003? I am fairly new to chess (I played years ago in high school but that was it). B.W.

Best way to handicap Shredder by Angelo DePalma
I own the latest Shredder, which uses the Fritz interface. My question is: What is the best way to handicap the computer so it plays a reasonably solid 2200-level game? How about 2100? After using these programs for years I've concluded that the rating levels in the handicapping modes are crap. The computer will play like a GM for 10 moves, then blunder. Or if it's set too low it just makes...

emailing games by Ray Johnstone
How do I email a game? I've got Fritz 6 and Chessbase 6 but neither seems to know about the internet or email. Chessbase does have a feature for correspondence chess which will print a postcard to be posted to the opponent. Perfect Chess by Death Eater Dan
Hi, Are there any sources available online that discuss the mathematics of calculating every possible chess board position and linking the positions with every possible move. Obviously the number is far beyond what computers are capable today, but I am interested in some exact numbers to predict how much longer we will have to wait to see a computer play a 'perfect' game of chess. After much...

Obituary to a brilliant player you probably never knew by Gregory Topov
The SR Chess world recently mourned the passing of Mikhail Seignovich, at aged 74, the only surviving son of legendary GM Victor Seignovich. In tribute to Mikhail, here follows an obituary of his father, clearly a shining star in the history of SR Chess players. The relatively unknown Russian champion Victor E. Seignovich (1909-1931) had a brilliant but very brief career. After a tremendous...

(C)omputer (C)heat at FICS by Gunny Bunny
Hey, Take a look at "IchiTheKiller", I played my (C)omputer account against this guy and got whooped, he just showed up March 14th and only plays against (C)omputers at 5 to 10 minutes ! The Admins(*) do not know who he is and after talking to this guy after awhile, I realized he is no high rated FIDE player, you are best to +noplay him until the Admins(*) sort it out !

Fritz 8 Serial Numbers by Mike N.
Just bought the Viva-Media "Play Chess: Fritz 8" version of Fritz. Playchess.com doesn't like the serial number from the software. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What was your solution? (I sent viva-media an email, but was curious whether it was a widespread issue) Thanks.

ICC and Linux??? by Ralph Jones
I thought I'd give ICC a testdrive, and discovered that you can only get the 7day trial if you have MS Windows. Well, at least it works out that way since you need to download Blitzen which is only available for Windows. Or is there another way to try it out? Any ideas? I'd kinda like to get a feel for it before I plunk down $50.

Weakest CM9000 GM Personality? by Bruce Sterling Woodcock
I was curious if anyone here had opinions on what the "weakest" GM Personality is in CM9000. They all have different styles, so I'm sure it depends upon what style you like to play. But although the game rates them all equally, it seems likely that in a series of head-to-head matchups some are easier to defeat than others. I found an old post that rated the CM6000 GMs according to a tournament...
