I want to enter my OTB games in fritz 8 for it to analyze. I see how to

Fritz8,Hiarcs8,Shredder7.04 Q's by
MC
I have Fritz8, Hiarcs8 and Shredder 7.04 installed on my laptop. I mostly
play against these programs in sparring mode (currently sparring modes
"Harder" and "Very Hard"). For some reason, whenever one of these programs
is playing White, it takes about 3 minutes for to select a move, and it
almost always is 1.Nf3. How can I tweak the opening book so that it plays
more "classical" games (1.e4,...

create nalimov tablebases by
Michael Wäsch
Hi,
ist there any known program that would let me generate nalimov tablebases
and that let me specify exactly which tablebases to build, which means more
precisely that I specify the pieces I want to have calculated instead of a
given list of tablebases of which I can choose from?

Xboard engines tournament manager by
yves
Dear all,
I am looking for an Xboard compatible tournament manager to run on Mac
OS X. (Panther)
On windows, I already used Schredder 6, Jori Ostrovskij's WB Tourney
Manager. More information can be found at
http://www.aarontay.per.sg/Winboard/Winboard6.html#
But the reason I ask here is because it does not solve my needs.

SCID windows - combining into one window? by
Gregory Topov
SCID has all kinds of separate windows, eg the game/board window, a PGN
window. All these separate windows complicate task switching, because it's
difficult to bring up all the SCID windows at the same time. Is there any
way to integrate or combine all the SCID windows into one separate window,
so SCID shows up just once in the task bar? This will make task switching
easier, so I can restore...

handheld chess computer information here by
Chris Kantack
For those of you new to rec.games.chess.computer, I just want to post a note
mentioning that I have a site with information on handheld chess computers.
It mostly covers the Excalibur handhelds because I've done some debugging of
their prototypes. (But I'm not employed or paid by Excalibur in any way.)
I do have a review of Chess Tiger for the Palm and (coming soon) a
ChessGenius review will...

an Europian chess server? by
dajava
Hi,
Having visited some internet chess sites based on some discussions
here, I got to have this interesting question.
It seems that all the chess servers are located in the USA.
Chess is a typical Western game.
Then is there an Europian chess server?

nic2cb by
andyhot
Hi, i've been using nic2pgn.exe to convert nicbase files (i.e. from
NIC59 Yerabook CD) into pgns, but....
the converter does not include the variations or annotations of the
original files.
Is there another converter that handles such cases?
Does anyone know if the source code for the original cb2pgn is available,
so that i can extend it to support variations?
Respect,
Andreas Andreou

CM9K problem? - Player Profile: Stats vs Opponent by
Gregory Topov
When I first got CM9000, from the "Player Profile" window, I could bring up
the "Tournament Room" stats box, and then click on "vs Opponent" to see the
stats of game results against individual CM personalities. This used to
work fine. Now when I click on the "vs Opponent" button, CM just exits
without warning.
Anyone else have this problem? I tried creating another user, and the
behaviour is...

What is Theory of Chess? by
Paolo Pignatelli
I see the phrase Theory of Chess often mentioned, but am not sure what it
means. Most often I hear that the "theory" is the result of experience of
games played, etc... But is this "theory"?
Is there a system that can produce rules, as in geometry? Are there ways of
proving things, even ones that are a bit loose, as a mathematical Proof by
induction in mathematics? (loose because inductive...

OT - deleting Registry files by
Hal Tynan
Hi folks,
A spyware program (one of those freebies) identified a couple of spyware
files in my Registry (MS Me). How do I delete these files from the
Registry? I can't locate them from MS Explorer. The spyware program
would do it, but you have to pay for their full version first.
Or does anyone know of a free spyware program that will identify AND
delete any files they find?
Any help from the...

Chess on a PDA or similar sized device by
Dr. David Kirkby
Hi,
I recently bought a portable chess computer (Kasparov xxx) which I
was not too impressed with. For a start it seemed to takes ages to
make simple moves. It only had a 10 MHz clock, which seemed a bit odd,
given the processing requirements of chess engines. Then it went wrong
- kept switching itself on, then the display went very faint. Finally
I got my money back.
Hence I'm once again...
