bitboards by
Tommy
Hello,
I found it is hard to find information on bitboards...
I have found lots of infos on search algorithms on the web and I also bought
"Scalable search in computer chess, by Heinz".
However I would like to master bitboards and I cannot find any good source.
Do you know any book/article/web-site which I could buy/download?
As always, thank you very much!

Dankal
Hi all,
Did somebody succeeded in creating a Rebel 12 UCI engine working in
Chessbase prog ? I tried with the free DOS version but it don't work .
I don't see any Rebel 12 engines playing in the Fritz site playchess either
so is it possible ?
If somebody succeeded creating it, I will be very happy if he send it to me
as my engines folder is craving for it ! (:-
My best wishes ,
Dan

Storing moves by
Mike Gleason Jr Couturier
Hello all !
I'm programming an engine and I'm wondering
if what I do concerning my list of move is somewhat
efficient...
When generating moves or attacks, I need to store
the moves in a list. Maybe I'll have to sort this list
later also (I'm not there right now).

Fischer Random Chess is not boring at all. by
Alberich
Bobby Fischer thought that Fischer Random Chess was the antidote to
computer software using opening book theory to prove they can't play
chess well. I beg to differ. Please look at this game I played today
using the Fischer Random setup. Unfortunately my engines can't read
Fischer Random castling rules so I had to play this setup as if it was
shuffle chess. But as you can see, this game should be...

0x88 approach by
grs
In the bitboards thread there was a mention of the 0x88 approach. I this the
approach that the turbo pascal gamesworks used.
I am thinking about trying to translate that program to c# as a method a
learning about the chess engines and at the same time improving my c#
skills.
Would the gameswork engine be worthwhile to spend time on. I would not use
the old dos screen interface, of course,...

Chessbase engines loses so easy! by
kostas_1966
I have a problem,
I have loaded in a fritz 8 opening book 117,797 games which includes only
winning games for white with the 1.d4 only.
Fritz 8 however loses so many times in online tests that I make.
The book has the 25 first movements of 1.d4 and leads all in 1-0.Fritz 8
plays all the time with white.
There are 117,797 games inside this opening book that i call "D4 KILLER" so
what gonna do...

Modern programs -vs- old computers by
Chuck in Minot
I have matched my old Fidelity 2100 against my PC running Rebel 12 for Dos.
Even when I run Rebel 12 at just 5 seconds per move and allow my Fidelity
2100 to run at its highest level outside of infinate which is 3 minutes per
move, it is still just no match for Rebel 12 and its 2650 rating on my old
Pentium III 400MHz. In game after game Rebel 12 wins.
It is just amazing to see just how powerful...

adjusting the window based on ttable by
Noah Roberts
I am still having issues with understanding transposition tables. I
never fully solved the bugs in the last engine and now am running into
similar issues the 2nd time through.
My understanding is that the flag of the entry should be based on the
following:
beta - LOWER
alpha - UPPER
in the window - EXACT

Using 6-man tablebases by
Brigitte Schipol
Hello,
I use the Fritz7 chess program. There you can choose an engine, for
example Crafty 17.3.
I copied the nalimov tablebases in an directory c:\Nalimov and now for
all 3-, 4-, 5- and some 6-piece-ending the result for all moves are
shown in the gui.
The not working 6-piece-endings are from Dec. 6th, 2002 or younger.

Best Positional Engine & Player by
Mike S.
Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to use Fritz to improve my play, and was looking for some
opinions as to which engine is best at positional play? Also, in order
to supplemnt the learning, which player does everyone believe is the
best at positional/strategic play. I've read that Capablanca was a
fine positional player, but just looking for some add'l opinions.
Also, would anyone recommend any books...

Hi,

PGN tactics files by
Matthew
I have a several chess tactics books that I am (tediously) putting into
chessbase -- I can use them in high school coaching drills. On the web, I
found all the positions from "1001 Winning Sacrifices and Checkmates"
(Reinfeld) in PGN format. Are there libraries of other books, or am I stuck
entering them by hand? I am especially interested in books I already own.
Two examples are...

Question about Endgame Database Generation by
Insert Pseudonym Here
I'm actually thinking over generating the complete state space of another
game, but I figure the principle is probably the same for chess endgame
databases. What is done when an "infinite loop" is encountered in the
state space while generating an endgame database? That is, when it's (for
whatever reason) most beneficial for each player to just keep repeating the
same states over and over. How...
