Hi I a'm wondering why Crafty is presented by most of you as their reference among chess engines. When I run Crafty against gandalf or, even better, Shredder, crafty loses everything. So why is it that you keep crafty in such high opinion?? Thomas

I see ratings for Fritz, Shredder, and the others, but nothing for this program. Anyone have it, play against it, or know if it ever got a rating?

Hallo, I have tried many sites with my credit card in hand to download programs like Fritz and Shredder, only to discover that they are not downloadable. This SUCKS! No way do I feel like waiting till the bloody CDs arrive, AND with shipping costs and all! What's the PROBLEM here? The purveyors of these programs are losing business big time - and encouraging piracy.

A new Fritz patch was announced on the Chessbase site yesterday. But I am unable to update my version of Fritz - it says my version is up-to-date. I tried re-entering the serial number, but it said that this number had reached the maximum allowed or something like that. Some at the Playchess site said that they had the patch. Comments? Henri

the programs you mentioned all use the same gui from chessbase. it's a nice gui, very nice in fact. but part of the price and packaging of these programs is the gui and vrml 3d chess pieces, so if you don't have an agp graphics card in your machine which supports directx8.1 (a microsoft 3d graphics driver) you won't get your money's worth from those. if you do like playing internet chess as well,...

Hi, could you please explain to me, how does the time control for example, "X moves in Y minutes" ? How max and min is X ? Y ? What if the countdown Y comes to 0 ? Should me have a look at the number of moves done so far ? then what ? Thanks

I have an Excalibur Grandmaster and was wondering if anyone has any estimates on it's playing strength at different levels. The Grandmaster seems like a good opponent at 10 seconds per move. Marty
