Is chess engine is dynamic? by dam_fool_2003@yahoo.com
Friends, I have this question with regarding chess engines. Are chess engines are dynamic, I mean will it get more power full day by day. Will it evaluate the positions from the database apart from eval function? My be an operation like this. Open the data base tree and search the position, which is similar to the one in present. Check the continuation and make a move. Is this how the computer...

Rebel 12 problem by Oliver Lewis
Anyone experiencing the following with Rebel 12? When playing a game, it will suddenly stop analyzing and display "0-1 Black mates" in a dialog box.... this happens usually around move 20 to 25. Trying to force it to move does nothing, but it's clock keeps on ticking down towards zero. I'm using XP home on a Wintel P4 (FYI). The other engine (LC 5.3 I think it's called) works fine.

*********Chess Competition PRIZE by |-|erc
www.C-H-E-S-S.com is approaching the 30,000 visitor mark. So to celebrate I'm giving away the name www.ChessLegend.com to visitor # 30,000. All you have do is take a snap of the screen to claim the prize, then issue a transfer, that costs $7 and includes a year rego. from godaddy.com Last check was 29,800 visitors, if the prize goes unclaimed the lowest counter value over 30,000 will win, so...

I had and returned a Novag Star Sapphire by Kenneth Edelstein
Long did I await its arrival. Loud did I lament its reality..... The backlight consumes batteries VERY quickly. With all its memory functions (program opening book) store 64 games, etc, it loses ALL when it's time for a battery change. That was the last straw....No little "button" cell for backup during a battery change???? I also was disappointed at the "graphics" which do NOT match...

A question regarding initial searching set deeper than 1-ply by Derek Wildstar
With increasing CPU robustness, and ample books, why are searches not started at a depth of 8 ply, or even deeper for tournament time controls? Clearly, the number of modes/sec has become so fast as to make the shallower plys a formality for housekeeping, such as hash tabling, repetitions, castling, blunder checks, among other things. Is there a huge disadvantage to starting a search at a deep...

Fritz 8 Coach will not give subtle or broad hint. by Locksley O. Young
I have Fritz 8 ( Marh 5 2003) running on Windows XP Home edition. When playing in Friends mode Coach will pop-up and tell you that your last move was not good but if you click on "Subtle hint" or "Broad Hint" nothing happens. Is there a newer update for Fritz 8? Why does Coach not work as expected? Thanks much. Locksley

Program that handles descriptive opening names? by marc margolies
chessbase does it. you just use an opening key with names instead of eco, when you sort your pgn. "Ulrich Dirr" wrote in message ... Hi, does a program exist that handles descriptive opening names? I want to classify a set of games with traditional opening names like 'Spanish', 'French', etc. Then I want to export this set to PGN or

Fritz 6 Deep Position Analysis by Mike S.
Hello All, I've been trying to analyze a recent tournament loss, and am trying to use DPA in my review of the game. During the game, I was a bit unsteady at my white move 23. I would like to have Fritz use DPA to analyze only that particular move, with maybe 3 variations going 8 nodes (half-moves) deep. I have been unable to accomplish this at all, with most of my setups for DPA going thru...

Gambit Tiger by Gian-Carlo Pascutto
However, Chess Tiger 15 (Chessbase) apparently does not have this newer version. I purchased CT 15 sometime ago, but if GT 3 was supposed to be on the cd, it wasn't... It's no longer a seperate version. You can set the playing style in the engine options. However, the ChessBase version is completely buggy and can only play with the Gambit Style (the default) unless you manually hack some...

I am curious as to why SSDF bothers to test Deep Fritz and alike, since all their PCs are single CPU? Or are there other changes between for instance Fritz 7 and Deep Fritz 7? Leonardo

Why such disparity in search speed among different engines by Jeff Stephens
I am using the Fritz 8 interface with a number of different engines. I have noticed that whether playing a game with an engine or using said engine in the infinite analysis mode, the nodes/sec search speed displayed by the Fritz interface varies widely between different engines. For example, of the engines I have, Junior 8 appears to search at the greatest speed. I have a Duron 1.3GHz w/ 512MB...
