Gambit Tiger by Gian-Carlo Pascutto
However, Chess Tiger 15 (Chessbase) apparently does not have this newer version. I purchased CT 15 sometime ago, but if GT 3 was supposed to be on the cd, it wasn't... It's no longer a seperate version. You can set the playing style in the engine options. However, the ChessBase version is completely buggy and can only play with the Gambit Style (the default) unless you manually hack some...

Deep version by Leonardo Ljubicic
I am curious as to why SSDF bothers to test Deep Fritz and alike, since all their PCs are single CPU? Or are there other changes between for instance Fritz 7 and Deep Fritz 7? Leonardo

Why such disparity in search speed among different engines by Jeff Stephens
I am using the Fritz 8 interface with a number of different engines. I have noticed that whether playing a game with an engine or using said engine in the infinite analysis mode, the nodes/sec search speed displayed by the Fritz interface varies widely between different engines. For example, of the engines I have, Junior 8 appears to search at the greatest speed. I have a Duron 1.3GHz w/ 512MB...

Crafty Speed Up by Seabook
Hello everybody, hello Dr. Hyatt, Most of you guys have probably checked out Plaskett's Puzzle on ChessBase.com. I'm having Crafty work on that problem on my laptop for the whole day yesterday and even now. I noticed that Crafty analyzes moves where the pawn queens to rook or to bishop. I find there is no reason for analyzing these lines because the analysis for queening to queen should...

Chess UML first cut. by Fogus
I have taken a very preliminary cut at a chess UML model. At the moment I am defining the framework (perhaps to be used in other board games as well), but any comments/problems/suggestions on the current effort or future path would be much appreciated. It can be seen at: http://modus-ponens.lacrymology.com/ -m

Rebel 12 & ChessBase by Michael Byrne
"T-Bone" wrote in message ... I'm having troubles getting the new Rebel 12 to work as a UCI engine under the Fritz 8 interface. I followed all the instructions from the Rebel 12 CD text-file. I created a UCI-engine under Fritz ok. When I switch to the Rebel 12 engine, it doesn't produce any thinking. Anyone get it to...

I can win? by Bob Jenkins
Since the dawn of personal computers, whenever I see a chess program, I play it, and I lose. Spectacularly. On every setting. Well, except where the computer plays to lose or draw (then the computer loses or draws), or the computer makes just random moves. Recently I queried Google for chess playing applets and played the top hit. And won. Then played the next few hits. And won, and won,...

Problems in quiescent search by Filipe Maia
I'm making my first chess program but i'm having problems with the quiescent search. I test all captures during quiescent search. The problem is that in certain positions about 99.99% of the total nodes are quiescent nodes and the search doesn't even end depth 1 search. Why is my qiescent search so extensive? What am i doing wrong?

tip: how to improve tablebase access with bigRAM by Euc1id
This tweak should be particularly helpful for those who have lots of RAM (1GB or more) and all of the 3-4-5 piece tablebases (7.05GB total, or more...). Several of those tablebases are over 100MB in size. With the usual settings, those large tablebases can't be held in the cache memory so will cause constant hard drive access. That's not a very user friendly situation!? The solution is to...
