ChessAssistant 7 search by
Fn39k
I recall someone saying that CA7 can find weaknesses in a player's repertoire
by showing what openings that he is uncomfortable with (losses incurred). Does
ChessBase 8.0 - 9.0 do this? I am interested in an upgrade but is willing to
wait next year to purchase. If you can contribute to this article please do so.
cordially yours, Larry

skinny on Mephisto chess by
Fn39k
Someone from ICD Your Move told me that Mephisto company had gone out of
business. Now delicated handheld and tabletops are being offered for sale under
the Mephisto name by US Chess and ICD. What's going on ?! The Mephisto
Master looks like the Milano Pro that was sold some years ago in the late
'90's.
I am confused about the other computers that are being sold too. When you pay
your $225 - $300...

Pocket Fritz 2 - Search Online (Internet) Fails by
ThommyG
Hello,
I have just installed Pocket Fritz 2 on my iPAQ 2200 Pocket PC 2003. It
runs fine thanks to the idiot-proof instructions provided by Steve Lopez -
the Chessbase guru. But the online search appears to be "broken." When
keying a game into Pocket Fritz 2, I am attempting to lookup the position
in the online database, i.e.,

Chessmaster 6000 font by

CM6000 is a nice bold general purpose font, which I use with the Chessbase
products too. You can download it he
http://jbob2000.tripod.com/cm6000_0.zip
I don't believe it's still available elsewhere. I don't know if it's
copyrighted, but I doubt anyone will object after this long. If so, let me
know and I'll remove the download, which I'll probably do automatically
anyway after about 30...

Chessmaster 9000 by
Kenneth C.
Doesn't anyone play chess on the ubi.com site? I was curious as to how it
worked. Do you use the Chessmaster 9000 board? The few times I tried, there
were no players there. Some different than ICC! I noticed that some of the
other game rooms had players. Not the chess rooms though.

(Fail soft) alpha beta by
Delphi
Hi!
I would like to know, what the difference between "normal" alpha-beta
and fail-soft alpha-beta is, concerning the usage of the returned values.
As far as I know, alpha-beta will always return values = alpha and = beta.
Fail-soft on the contrary could also return something alpha or beta.
How could this be used?
It seems to me, that narrower windows are better.
And is there probably a...

Chessmaster9000 [online chess] by
Kenneth C.
Has anyone played chess at ubi.com? I've tried a few times, but no one ever
seems to be there. Definitely not another ICC! What is the idea anyway? If I
found someone there, and did play, would I be using the chessmaster9000
board? I notice some of the other games at the site have players there, but
no one in the chess rooms. What gives??

Chesstoday & AOL.....Grrrrr! by
Rrb828
Has anyone else had problems getting the Chess Today newsletter with AOL? I
realize it's a problem with Yahoo & AOL, but was wondering if there was anyone
who had found a workaround. I've tried every setting under the sun in both and
have not had any luck with it. I'm ****ed 'cause I paid for Chess Today and am
missing them all. Any help would be appreciated.

Pocket PC chess games? by
Todd Watson
I've been a Palm user for years. I initially used Chess Genius, then
switched to Chess Tiger. I've just purchased a Pocket PC, and, looking
at pocketgear.com, I see there are a fair number of chess games for
it. I'd appreciate some recommendations as to which to try. I'm an
average, non-tournament player. Much obliged!

Fritz7 vs Mephisto Exclusive w/seanetor module by

I am contemplating buying the Mephisto Exclusive chess computer with the
Senator module. It is a priportary 32 bit RISC processor with an opening
library of 30k half-moves and an opening book of 50k games. It also sports
an end-game database, and is rated at 2400 (US) and can be updated.
Anybody familiar with this brain? I have Fritz7 running on a 2 gig processor

'Premove' on Playchess by
Nonyz
How many of you are aware of or use this feature?
For those of you who don't know, 'premove' is a feature incorporated
in the newer Chessbase GUIs, by which one can actually make his next
(several) moves during the opponent's turn. You just make your next
move or moves during the opponent's turn and after the opponent plays,
your 'premove,' if deemed legal, is immediately made. The premove
costs...

Nalimov Endgame Tablebases by
Michael Byrne
I acquired a set of 4 CDs containing the Nalimov Endgame Tablebases from
Kazabee, Inc.. Since I already have the EGTB's, I have no use for this. I'm
offering them on e-bay for $1.00 plus shipping. It may save you the hassle
of downloading them. I'm only this as a convenience for some poor soul on
dial-up.
