Chessmaster opponents by Alexander Fischer
Hi, a question on chessmaster opponents. How accurate is their "strength" measured in points? I.e., if I have no problems beating all the 1500 opponents on my P2 (333 MHz, 160MB RAM), does this give some approximation of my playing strength being above 1500? Thanks, Alex

DGT Chess Board by Curtis Thetford
I was looking at this board on the companies web site and it looks like a really cool product, but a quite prohibative price tag. I was wondering if this is a new product that can be expected to drop in price over time (as is the case with most electronics) or if this is a well-established product that will continue selling at the current prices for the near future.

Fritz8 - Crosstable by CeeBee
Darko Majdic wrote in rec.games.chess.computer: When I cross table my games i get table with this columns. Could someone explain their meaning? I understand what's the last one, but first numeric column is unclear. It must be some kind of rating, but what are additional numbers with + or -? Here's another:

Al, My apologies. I apparently hit the wrong button--not too shocking. Oddly, the post isn't showing up on my computer. If your chess talent is as great as is your rudeness, you are a great player indeed. Steve

Move Analysis Software by mr0x
Hi. I was wondering if there is there a software that given a board and the color to move, will give a ratings of all the possible moves that could be made (e.g. 5 for a good move, 1 for bad moves, 3 for average moves and so on in some scale). It would be really nice if I could run it through a whole bunch of files and get a ratings for each one of them (as contrast to a point and click one).

Transposition table usage with q-search and nullmove by Delphi
Hi! I do not know how to correctly store scores into the TT, especially when it comes to q-search and nullmove. Is it true, that we can take the score we get, no matter if its from a "normal" search or a q-search and proceed the following way? Simplified and pseudo-code :-)

Fritz 1.2 v Shredder 7 by Leonardo Ljubicic
I am fully aware that in a given set of games even the strongest chess programs could lose a game or 2 against their weaker and older opponents, but last night I played mentioned 2 game match at 120/40, no books used, in order to see just how much the understanding of the basics of the chess game has improved with todays top programs. Shredder 7 mated Fritz 1.2 in move 32 as white. Fritz chose...

some newbie Fritz 8 q's by CeeBee
henri Arsenault wrote in rec.games.chess.computer: One point worth mentioning is that Fritz automaticall creates a number of databases, and one of them is Myinternetgames or something like that. Chess Tiger 15.0 by Akiralx
I bought this and have found it doesn't include a 500,000 game database or a 3D glass-style board, which I understand are in the spec for this program, the former being one of the nmain reasons I got it. Can anyone confirm that they should be included? They weren't mentioned in the spec from the company I bought from: http://www.lokasoft.nl/uk/chess_tiger_15.htm But it is he

Shredder/Fritz opening training by Angelo DePalma
I just bought Shredder, which uses the exact same interface as Fritz8. For some reason I cannot get the "opening training" function to work properly. As soon as move 4 or so the computer overrules the opening book and plays its own move. I've tried every setting but I can't get it to stop doing this. I had the same problem with Fritz8. chessboard information by Tiger88
Steven, Good try, but most serious chess players want a board that does not distract from the game. We go out of our way to use boards that are as unobtrusive as possible. Buff and green are the favorite colors for tournaments because they are the easiest on the eyes. I know the last thing I would be interested in is a board covered with pictures. Tiger88

Kasparov Turbo Advanced Trainer by DJV
Hi folks. I'm looking for a manual for a chess computer made by Saitek called the Turbo Advanced Trainer. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3142639576&category=2554&rd=1) It came with the training book that you can see in the picture, but this book doesn't really tell what the buttons do. I'm assuming it originally came with a separate users manual of some sort. If...

Fritz8 - case sensitive by Darko Majdic
I have a problem with filtering PGN database in Fritz8. Apparently it's filter is case sensitive. That's O.K. with me, but the problem occurs whenever i want to filter by some name that has no capital letter. Fritz always makes first letter in the name capital so I cannot filter any games with names that are in low case. Any solution? -- Darko Majdić
