Portable Ashley Videos by Joe Nasal
Something fun: Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com) has audio / video presentations of Maurice Ashley's "Road to the Chess Grandmaster" series in 10-15 minutes segments for about $1 each. Each segment is a complete, annotated game from GM Ashley. Buy them all & get close to 2 hours of grandmaster commentary for $8. I downloaded them as mp3 files (audio only) and then uploaded to my...

Fritz and Chessmaster - get both? by henri Arsenault
I already had Frit 8z, and I broke down yesterday and bought Chessmaster 9. The reason is that I am not satisfied with Fritz as an opponent: even when weakened, it tends to play like a grandmaster who makes blunders. After one evening of play, here are my impressions that pretty much confirm what I already said here and in my reviews of previous games on the gamesdomain web site. Fritz is a much...

Small problem with annotations in Fritz8 and chessbase8 by JMR
When I want to change the colour of a variation in Fritz8 or Chessbase8 I make a right-Click in the panel of notation, I choose "special annotations" and then "variation color". But this works only after I have repeated the trick two times for the same variation. Is this a bug ? Thanks

fritz 7 or 8 by Max
How much better is Fritz 8 over Fritz 7, Elo points or so. The difference in cost is twice, is it better to pay for a higher cost to get Fritz 8 or the lower cost to get Fritz 7. And how good are these engines in analyze/game play etc.

I love handheld chess computers by mafergut
"Dan Yobry"wrote this No, but really folks. I am a huge fan of my Palm Pilot with Chess Tiger. Chess Tiger puts up a good fight. Actually, when I jack up the trainer level on it, it routinely kicks my ass (I'm not that good). How would compare in playing strength one of this chess handhelds against a Pocket PC with a chess software? It varies you will say, and I know but, in general terms,...

Why doesn't Fritz "know" this? by Neil Coward
I'm no expert on this matter like Mhoulsby and Russell Reagan seem to be but I just think a computer has to calculate everything whereas in some positions, for humans, it is 'obvious'. For example a 16 move mate in some positions might be easier for a human to calculate, indeed the computer might not calculate that far, it may only be programmed to go 8 or 10 moves ahead. So how can a human...

ELO-rating with Fritz 8 by Marcel Alsemgeest
I have a question about the ELO-rating that Fritz 8 calculates. I've only played a few online rated games on the server, but my rating is still 0, so my question is: does it take a certain number of rated online games before a rating appears? I can't find info on this in the documentation that comes with Fritz. Thanks in advance! Marcel

Fritz Opening Books by Wet_Chess_Dreams
I noticed something interesting. The Fritz 8 opening book is significantly smaller in size than the Fritz 7 book. Is there a reason for this?

Fritz 7 or 8 by mickeyblake
F8 is slightly stronger, several changes made to the server section. For example there is greater interaction with the online server than with F7. Is it worth the upgrade, yes if you play on the server. Mickey "Marcel Alsemgeest" wrote in message ... At the moment I have Fritz 7 and am thinking of buying Fritz 8, but is it really...

Chessbase: Explanations and Recommendations Needed by CeeBee
(dan foley) wrote I need advice on Chessbase - I am thinking of purchasing it and don't exactly know what I'm buying. Is ChessBase just the software that is required to use databases of games and openings, or does it actually come with games and the ability to do queries against the games database? How would you recommend starting out with this program? I would...
