Blundercheck Annotation Quirks by
Martin Brown
There have been a few threads recently about game commentaries that
seemingly depend too heavily on engine annotation without the
application of some common sense. I recently played a quick sparring
game against Shredder 10 where the engine annotation by blundercheck
was found wanting.
Strangely even though all the engines in infinite analysis or deep
positional analysis could easily see that...

Diagrams in ChessBase8.0 by
Ian Burton
How do I enter text above (or below) a diagram I plan to print. My text
would be short, on the order of "Beware the Pin." I know I used to do this,
but not having used the program in a long while, I've forgotten how. The
booklet is useless as far as I can tell.
Thanks for your help.

Fritz 10 - Tablebases by
keithbc
Please help.
I cannot access the endgame database when playing 4 or 5 piece
endings.
The manual refers to the tablebase on the CD and advises to 'copy the
content of the directory \TBS.
I have opened the Fritz CD and cannot find anything with TBS on.

Blitz rating, Fritz10 and Genius by
M Winther
I tested Fritz10 against Genius5 i a five game 5-min blitz match. I
set the hash tables to equal sizes. Genius won with 4-1. The result is
curious while Fritz10 represents the latest in engine technology while
Genius5 is quite old. Fritz10 did not have much of a chance. Genius
always seems able to strengthen his positions in positional games.
This strengthens my suspicion that Genius is stronger...

Sam Sloan is joining force with Brian P Lafferty to sue the USCF by
Jackass Lafferty
It has been reported that Sam Sloan is a child molester and a
pedophile. Everyone knows this. Sloan is now teaming up with litigator
Brian P. Lafferty and pseudo accountant Donna Alarie for a dry cleaner
to sue the USCF. This trio gives the term "White Trash" a bad name.

Wanted - games from weaker players by
Dave (from the UK)[_2_]
There seems to be no difficulty in obtaining PGN files for games played
by strong players, but if one wants them from weak players, it is more
difficult.
I'd like to make a database publically available for games played by
*week* players, where both are *human* (i.e. no engine vs engine or
engine vs human). Also, I only want standard games, with the normal
start position - not those with...

Brian P. Lafferty plans to sue the USCF by
samsloan
It has been reported that MA attorney Brian P. Lafferty plans to sue
the USCF. I'm certain that it will happen. That's why he has been
provoking everyone on the USCF forums. He also works with Donna Alarie
to get confidential financial information to support his case.

game annotations by
help bot
I am currently reading the August 2007 issue of Chess Life
magazine, and an interesting this is that the very same game
is annotated therein by two different people. More accurately,
the first time is credited to a combination of GM Susan Polgar
and FM Paul Truong, while the second annotator is IM John
Watson.
IMO, the Polgar/Truong team did a much better job, as
indicated in both their...

How long to email games from ICC? by
Dave
I have my account on ICC configured so it emails me the games I play. I
played one yesterday . I'm 5 hours in front of the time
of the ICC server, so that was 14:06 local time yesterday. Today I
receive the email from ICC, at 14:45 local time - just over 24 hours later.
Do others have this? I'm not sure if ICC are mailing the games late, or
my ISP is sending them to me rather late.

Statistical significance of score differences - new release of ChessDB by

I've made a new release of ChessDB, a chess database based on Scid from
