Don Schultz defends "Internet Insurance" by samsloan
Yes the EB approved it but the stakes are now higher - the loss of an important Board member, who has opportunities in the oven and the fact that at least one Board member feels that the very existence of the USCF is at risk because of the potential magnitude of legal developments. Personally I agree with that assessment. Right or wrong, Susan's potential marketability is enormous and its...

Phil Innes announces that Joel Channing has resigned by samsloan
Phil Innes has announced that Channing has resigned. However, this is apparently not true. As usual, Innes has it all wrong. Here is what Innes wrote: "And Goodbye Joel Channing. Breaking news this weekend is that a USCF board member resigned April 4th, over apparent disputes with board president Bill Goichberg. No official communiqué has yet been

Channing claims that Polgar has 300,000 kids by samsloan
Ron is correct. It was at Channing's insistence that the USCF Purchase "Internet Insurance". In 2006, I made a motion that the Internet insurance be canceled. My motion lost. It is true that a majority voted for it, but that was because Channing was extremely insistent on it. It was also Channing's idea to hold the "Retreat" to Florida. At the time it was first announced, I assumed that...

Susan's Rant Today by samsloan
Today, Susan launched into her usual rant of late. What I find interesting is that today Susan complained that Jerry Hanken had leaked confidential information to me and I in turned had used that confidential information in my opposition to her attorney's motion to dismiss. However, I am unaware of any confidential information, either in what Jerry Hanken leaked to me or in what I used in my...

ChessDB not installing on Suse by Tom F.
I'm trying to install ChessDB on Suse 10.3. The configure and make output looks good (quoted below), but it isn't getting installed. Tcl/ Tk and zlib seem to be installed and found by the configure file. I don't see any obvious errors. Any ideas would be appreciated. -------------------------------- linux-4cod:/home/tom/ChessDB-3.6.19-beta-1 # ./configure configu Makefile configuration program...

Polgar Moving Back to Hungary - Is this an April Fools Joke? by samsloan
It is posted on Susan Polgar's Official Blog too, so it does not seem that it would be a hoax. http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2008/04/im-moving-back-to-hungary.html However, I still find it to be highly likely that this is an April Fools Day joke. We will find out tomorrow for sure.

Rybka's Achille's Heel? by J.D. Walker
Those that recall earlier messages I posted regarding "Transwarp," a version of Rybka that is running over at ICC may remember the talk of an approach to drawing by locking up the position. Nakamura was a leading exponent of this approach. It appears that the technique has been refined to the point that a number of GMs are victimizing poor Rybka. Transwarp's current rating is 3398. This...

Help Bots new idea tickeled. by Sanny
Help bot suggested about the blockade strategy it helped GetClub play much stronger games now. I played two games with Beginner vs Rybka and found even Rybka is not able to get ahead and finish GetClub like it used to earlier. It is taking longer for Rybka to win against the Beginner Level. As Beginner is not allowing Rybka to take its pieces easily. The Games are ending with +10 Moves.

Beginner atleast 1850+ Rated acording to FICS games. by Sanny
As few people said FICS gives correct Rating. I played 3 Games at FICS against Beginner Level, To my amazement Beginner won all the three games. It beat three players of Rating 1832 and 1700 and 1500. And Now FICS rates GetClub Beginner level as 1800+ So all those who used to say Beginner plays less than 1800 Look at this game. See how Beginner Sacrificed its Knight and Won the game.
