Anti-Semitism on FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) by
Israel Silverman
On the internet, no one knows if you're a dog.
But some people care if you are Jewish. And anti-semitism is alive and well,
in places you'd hardly expect to find it.
I play chess on various online services. There is ICS, the internet chess
club. There is also a free internet chess server, called FICS. FICS has
always been a nice place to visit, play a few games. The administration
prides...

Chess computers by
pineapple.link@yahoo.com
Hi,
I am doing some extensive traveling soon, and would like a handheld
chess computer to pass the time on extremely long flights (my notebook
computer won't due - battery life too short, too big and heavy, etc).
My main criteria would be a video screen (no physical chess pieces or
board), quality/reliability, and of course size/weight/portability. I
don't care how tough of an opponent the...

very happy! v1.18 of Pos won from GNU Chess! by
Folkert van Heusden
I still can hardly believe it but my chess program (
http://www.vanheusden.com/pos/ ) Pos version 1.18 reproducably wins
occasionally from GNU Chess!
Since my program uses none of the regular techniques as the Shannon
algorithm or brute force in any kind I found this to be a major milestone.
Yes, it won before from Pulchess v0.2i but now that also wins from other
software as well it starts to...

Great Accomplishment by Erik Anderson in Idaho Schools Chess by
samsloan
I initially missed the article that appeared in the New York Times two
days ago, but this is a truly great development:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/us/20chess.html
What needs to be noted (and what nobody else has commented on thus
far) is that this program comes from Erik Anderson and his American
Foundation for Chess.
It also should be recalled that a certain person was attacking Mr.

tournamen problems in chessmaster by
tZar
hi
Just a beginners question.
I made a tournament in chessmaster 9000 with 7 computer players and
myself in it. The tournament scedule poped up after each game, and
showd the next game. Then you press 'select' and the game will be
played.
The problem is that I at one point clicked 'auto' on the tournament
scedule, and now it only shows computer matches, and I do not know how
to stop this and...

Know about GRAND CHESS by
Sanny
I was talking about new Games and Help Bot suggested me that why not
have a board 100x100 size. That is too Big.
We see people have mastered Chess so deep that they have just
memorized first 10 Moves.
But the beauty of Chess lies in its complexities.
Here is a new GRAND CHESS I propose.

Bill Brock calls for the Resignations of Goichberg and Truong by
samsloan
I agree that Goichberg should resign but I am sure that he will not do
so. However, my reasons for believing that Goichberg should resign are
entirely different than those suggested by Bill Brock.
In the first place, this entire situation was created by Goichberg.
After the votes were counted and I was declared to have been elected
to the board on July 20, 2006, Goichberg started a series of...

Generate a list of legal moves (command-line) by
whystopnow
I'm looking for a tool that will generate a list of legal moves based
on reading a list of moves made (like a .PGN). I'd like to interact
with it via command-line. Ideally, I'd just say "here's the file" and
it would spit out a list of legal moves - it would know whose turn
based on the moves so far.
I don't see a way to do this with crafty - there's no option to ask it
what the legal moves...

dual resignation trial balloon by
samsloan
I previously made an offer that Goichberg, Channing, Polgar and Truong
all resign and then run for re-election against me and anybody else
who wants to run.
My offer was rejected out-of-hand with the statement that Goichberg
will NEVER resign.
My point is that if Goichberg, Channing, Polgar and Truong believe
that the membership still supports them, they should not have any fear
of running for...
