george
I have a dual core 4200 and several MP engines, running without the Fritz10
GUI, I was wondering if I wanted to test a MP program such as deep fritz or
loop64:32 would I use ponder on or ponder off? Also if I run two MP engines
against themselves should I turn off ponder or not?
thanks for the help

ECO Code System Question by
John Evans
I have a question about the ECO. Whats the logic behind the organization of
the openings? For example, if I want to find an opening that I don't know
the name of whats the quickest way to find it? These question are with the
book in mind not a computer Database.

I have lost the instruction manual to my Radio Shack 2150L chess

scan and email a copy of theirs. Would be much appreciated. Please
reply here - OR to lvlew(at)cox.net . Thank you.

An old article about early chess computers! Quite amusing rant. by
westgatealarms@gmail.com
I scanned this rant years ago from an old magazine, it's well worth the
read. Quite funny in places.
"Pity the Poor Chess Computer Buyer" :(
If there was ever a blind item in the history of selling, the chess
computer is it! When the commercial chess computer was introduced to
the
public some 8 years ago, the uninformed public was divided into two
schools

Classic game commments in Chessmaster by
markg9@yahoo.com
My kid has CM 9000 and was looking at some classic games that come with
it.
I'm not sure if the options are set up correctly, but there is only a
brief comment shown on each game as opposed to analysis of every move
(as I've seen in most good chess books). Is this available in CM or do
we need to get some other game package?
Thanks
Mark

efficient in_check routine by
Loomis Philanthrope
Hi all,
I am trying to write an efficient routine to determine whether the king
is in check. Any ideas you know of are welcome.
I am using the 0x88 board representation. My current method is to loop
over the opponents pieces and use the difference between the king square
the the piece square as an index into an array that tells me if the
piece could attack the king from that square. Then...

64-bit chess engines by
Thomas T. Veldhouse
So, I see that Deep Shredder 9 and 10 are available as 64-bit UCI engines .
Has anybody tried these and has there been any notable performance
increase?
Thanks in advance.

Dave (from the UK)
Does anyone know how one can save a game in someone history on ICC to a
PGN file by telnetting to the server, rather than using Blitzin?
I can log in and see the history of user 'foo' (yes, there is a foo, but
not a foobar!)

chess software training by
Ange1o DePa1ma
I've worked my ass off for the past 10 days so I could have a day and a half
to prepare for the Liberty Bell Open, which begins tomorrow night.
Here's how I spent 10 hours today.
* Opened the box for a printer I purchased from Amazon for the express
purpose of printing chess-instructional index cards. Installed the software
but discovered no ink cartridge was included. Went to Staples but...

I won't sign any code of conducts by
samsloan
They're trying to frame me by making all the candidates sign a code of
conducts. I won't sign anything. I've never been convicted of any
crime. I have the most experience and I'm also the most famous chess
player. I deserve 4 more years. Hal Bogner and Leroy Dubeck will
campaign for me.

I'm looking for the PGN file for the 1970 Rovinj-Zagreb "Tournament of

the PGN file is the important thing.
Thank You,

Want to improve my chess, software or computer? by
John Smith
Should I go for hardware based or software based?
On http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/bcmsoft.html there is some software that
seems to be fairly well respected (fritz and shredder), but I see there
are also some very nice chess computers :
http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/bcmcomp.html.
I do have a laptop so for me it's all about pro's and con's. Also
although I'd like to primarily just play I'd also be...

2 face Beatriz Marinello is attacking me by
samsloan
Sam,
Please try not to include me in your postings, unless it's necessary.
I think that postings like this one contribute to the polarization of
the USCF's leadership; I want not part on it.
I asked you not to say anything about the 'under the table situation."
You did not respect my wishes, and then apologized for it. I appreciate
the apology, but this does not give you a green light to...

Human vs Machine Matches by
Chess One
I would like to make a proposal, and discover your interest in two forms of
Human v Machine matches - since I am sometimes approached by both sides to
investigate possibilities.
In conversations elsewhere there are discussions of fairness,
so I propose two options;
a) Human plus database, vs Computer
b) Human vs Computers Simul.
