Sanny is now posting in sci.bio.paleontology by
Thomas T. Veldhouse[_2_]
Sany is now posting in sci.bio.paleontology. First of all ... they guys is
clearly out of his mind in the post. Second, it is a CLEAR attempt at
spreading his URL. Evidence is building a strong case that we may be able to
boot the fool from USENET as a SPAMMER!
Here is the article he posted:

Chessplayer
How you machine work, when you play SD-levels and you (or computer) time is
out? Could you also tell me (if you know) what generation you Citrine are or
when you buy it?
I ask these information, because some of Citrine models are bug in SD-Level

Chess256 for computer matches by
M Winther
Chess256 implies that the opening setup for the pawns is chosen
randomly while satisfying the condition that the pawns must be placed
either on the second or the third rank. The sides mirror each other.
Unlike Chess960, this is practically the same as standard chess.
I suggest that Chess256 is ideal for matches between chess programs.
In this way the opening library plays no role at all. What...

PC chess game for beginner by
blacktrail
I'm interested in getting a computer game to learn and enjoy the game
of chess. I know the basic rules and piece moves, but that's about
it. I plan to play alone without internet access. Which PC game
would you recommend for me?
Thanks!
Joel

Sanny - Please reply without his URL! by
Thomas T. Veldhouse[_2_]
For those of you willingly helping him out, that is great. But it is my
opinion that he is really just posting here and trying to spread his URL
around. If any responders to Sanny would mind, could you please remove his
URL from your response?
At least, if he is after real advice, he can continue to get it, but if he is
just after URL proppagation, then that can and should fail.

UCI Engine Bindings by
Martin Brown
I have the sourcecode (somewhat modified) for an old VAX chess engine
originally written in PASCAL and now in Modula2.
I have written a UCI binding for it to place it under the ChessBase GUI
and in testing I have run into a problem. I cannot persuade the info
command to work - what I send back is mostly ignored by the GUI. I have
clearly got something wrong but it isn't obvious from the...

Fritz 12 by
Chess in the City
Last year there was no new version of Fritz. I was disappointed
because that is how I get my yearly subscription to playchess.com.
I just learned the Fritz 12 is coming out the week of October 12th. It
looks great in green.
Here is where I found Fritz 12 new features:

Program to display attacked squares? by
I.N. Galidakis
My apologies for crossposting this and if it's a trivial question.
Many years ago, I had a Mac program which for a given configuration would
display all "attacked"/"supported" squares on the chessboard using different
color intensities to indicate the "strength" of the attack.
For example, using a red color gradation scale from 1 (P) to some high number
(39?), the attacked squares would show...

XBoard/Winboard 4.4.0 released by
Arun
A new release both XBoard and WinBoard is now available. Version
4.4.0 includes many changes. It is the first major release of
xboard/winboard after a fork of the project after version 4.2.7. It
includes small changes made in the main line and changes made by a
fork of Alessandro Scotti and lots of changes made afterwards by
H.G. Muller (released as versions 4.3.x). This release represents...

Fritz by
Sarah Austin
I've been using Chessmaster 9000 for awhile and am tired of some of the
things it does, like tying up my computer CPU if I do something else in
the middle of a game. ( some kind of timer bug? )
I hear Fritz is good, but I'm only rated at around 1400. Can it be set for
weaker players too, or is it just for experts?

Scid 4.0 released (chess database and training software) by
Pascal
Hi,
Scid 4.0 has been released. Main changes are :
- use of a new base format, so very long games with plenty of comments
and variations are now handled. The user can also use custom flags to
mark games. When a si3 base (Scid 3.x format) is opened with this
version it is automatically converted to the new format (which takes
about 10 sec for a 3 million games database).
- many bug fixes
