Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, my dear friend by
Sam Sloan
You may ask: Why do I call Kirsan "My Dear Friend" when he said that
I'm a bum in the past?
I have always been one who runs to the aid of any person who has been
wrongfully accused. Therefore, when rumors started to fly that Kirsan
Ilyumzhinov had personally ordered the murder of journalist Miss Larisa
Yudina, I realized that Kirsan was my dear friend after all. He didn't
do it. She committed...

How to Capture Positions, Display on Website by
givenrandy@gmail.com
I want to go through some games and capture positions to an image (JPG,
GIF, PNG, whatever). What is the best way to do that? Used one chess
program, but doing a screen capture ended up with a blurry "photo".

teaching software by
leonidt@magma.ca
My son is 5 years old and I'm trying to teach him chess. He is losing
interest in about 5, maximum 10 minutes of a lesson.
I'm looking for some interactive software that teaches kids to play
chess starting with moves and etc. Process built like a nice game.
Any suggestions, recommendations?
Thanks

weak xboard compatible chess engines running under Linux? by
Folkert van Heusden
Hi,
Does anyone know a really weak chess program from which my own program
(www.vanheusden.com/pos) might win? I tried quiet a few chessprograms but
even when I limit the ply-depth all of them still win.
Folkert.

Don't make that move make another one. by
Terry
I am trying to learn the openings. When I play online I get some of
the same moves made most of the time. I can't remember the most common
ones each time, but I can tell when the computer makes a move that is
not common.
What I would like to be able to do is sit down and have the computer
play an opening. If the computer makes a move I am not used to, just
be able to give the command "don't...

positions for the Nalimov 6-piece KRPKBP database by
politikalhack@gmail.com
crossposted from rgca
I don't have the KRPKBP database, and can't find online access to it
....if someone does, I'd appreciate these queries (I suspect they are
all losses, but I'm not sure)
This ending is non-trivial (for humans, anyway) even without the Black
pawn on f6. In the five-piece ending, there are drawn positions when
White advances the h-pawn too quickly....

Why bother with Sanny's program ??? by
Dave (from the UK)
Reading these newsgroups, there are countless posts about Sanny's web
site & chess program by several people.
I have great difficulty in understanding why. From what others have
said, it would appear to be a brain-dead chess program which plays bad
chess very slowly. There are vapor ware prizes, since you do not
actually get any money.
Why not do what I do with software when it is poor -...

Best software for analysis by
Chris
What is the best software available for analysis of a game? So given a pgn
file which software do you feel provides the best analysis and is also an
easy to use software package.
Chessmaster has been kind of cludgy for me in the past but I know it does
the trick. Is there a better package?

Suggestions?

I'm responsible for the Presidential Proclamation by
Sam Sloan
October 9, 1976, President Gerald Ford, the nation's thirty-eighth
president, declared National Chess Day. As we approach that date, and
the 30th anniversaryof its inception, we would encourage state and
local clubs to commemorate the day in some way, perhaps with a
tournament or an education program aboutchess in their communities.
I was the one who convinced President Ford to do that. It...

MyChess Database by
michael@keating.net
I thought some of you might want to check out my lastest project - an
online chess database. I think it's decent at this point. Among other
things it has positional search and opening/position statistics with
over 2.5 million games online. Of course, its free to use. See:
http://www.mychess.com/chessdb
Let me know what you think...
Thanks,
