Best Training Software? by
Thomas T. Veldhouse
I am looking to find the best value in training software. Currently, I tend
to read through books, but I find it rather annoying to setup a board and
parse the notation for each example. It is tedious and doesn't play well in a
mobile setting. So, I am thinking of doing some training on the computer. I
note that ChessMaster X has a lot of training material. I am a owner of Fritz
8 and I...

Dwight Perry, Seattle Times: "Russian chess champ Alexandra

featured in the May issue of Penthouse, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
No reaction yet from world federation officials, but, in chess
parlance, it certainly gives a whole new meaning to...

Ponder on? by
Ruud
Can anyone explain what is meant by the term 'ponder on' or 'ponder off' in
computer-engine chessmatches? It seems a very common term, some kind of
condition of play between engines, but I cannot find anything in the
helpmenu, and it's not clear to me what it is .
Thanks in advance
Ruud

6man tablebases available by
tykitys@hotmail.com
Now everybody get 6man tablebases free.
It works fine, read more at:
http://kd.lab.nig.ac.jp/chess/tablebases-online/
All you need is a reasonable internet connection (down/upload) and some
free hard disk storage. You need only 42 TBs files to cover over 90% of
cases occurring in human games. That is only about 200 Gb.

CM8000 game/analysis time wrong by
neverwin
I'm running Chessmaster 8000. It performed fine until earlier this
week.
Now all the time settings seem to default to as fast as possible !.
Just set upo a game between Tal and Tinman with a half hour clock.
Chessmaster just went crazy playing the moves at blitz pace !
When analysing games no matter what is put into the
'Time For Anaysis' dialogue box, again the program just rushes through
at 1...

How to convert rebel database to pgn ? by
the.yaggie@gmail.com
Hiya,
So situation is that I have a database of my games that was created
with old Rebel Century that doesn't run on my current computer anymore.
Is there any tool out there, which would convert Rebel .dat file to
..pgn format? Or is the only solution to find some old computer with
Windows 95/98 and do the conversion with Century?
Oh, and I am aware of Fred van Engen's PGN Export Utility but it...

chessbase 9 upgrade? by
igor bondarevski
i am a legal owner of chessbase 9.0
after starting chessbase 9.0, a window pops up asking me to upgrade online.
i click cancel each time.
finally, today, i decide to go along with the upgrade "v9 to v10" whatever
that means. i figure if chessbase wants me to upgrade, it's probably a good
idea to do so.

[Fritz 9] Explain All Moves by
tjb
I'm curious about the Explain All Moves pane. Does Fritz use the engine to
its *maximum* strength when suggesting moves on this pane? That is,
assuming I give the Explain All Moves pane enough time, on any given turn
does it report (via the first item in the list) what move the engine would
make on its *strongest* setting?
