Yeah, and these are the guys who we hope will take chess seriously and
produce great games against each other, not play unprepared skittle matches
against unknown opposition with the usual result of fast draws and an excess
of safety plays, or go tournament hopping, no-body knowing even their own
schedule, or knowing if even sure-thing guarantees by the Fide president is
any assurance at all. Phil

Well, the Russian text pertains to the Karpov v Sadvakasov match that
finished on November 10.

But now that Kramnik has to rest for 2 months, perhaps Karpov thinks that
resting for 4 days is not enough for him either.

FWIW, I don't quite believe Kramnik and Karpov.

BTW, there was a pre-championship conference today, and Kasparov took
advantage of the event to state on the record that Kirsan did not come up
with the financial guarantees for the Kasparov v Kasimdzhanov match yet. The
deadlines that Kasparov set in his open letter to FIDE, November 1 for Dubai
and November 10 for Turkey, have also passed, but Kasparov did not say what
will happen as a consequence of that.

FWIW, it looks as if Kirsan's statement (that he has the financial guarantee
on his desk) was a blatant lie to the press and to the rest of the world.

Karpov confirms his participation?

Oh, these chess journalists! The following is copied from the ChessBase web
site:
--------------------
We had no independent verification of this information, and promised more
details on Sunday. Now we are hearing from chess friends in Moscow that
Karpov did indeed confirm his participation, as given on the official web
site of the tournament. From this it would seem that Karpov will be one of
the twelve GMs at the Super Final.

On the other hand the Chess Pro web site clearly states that Karpov will not
play. In addition Chess Pro also says that Alexander Khalifman will not be
able to replace him, since he is on his way to Tallin to take part in
another tournament.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
what happened behind that wall?

Anyone having trouble connecting to the live games at the official site? The
games will begin in the next few minutes!

Anyway, interesting gossip about Kasparov's family: look at

http://www.chessbase.de/nachrichten.asp?newsid=3756 (in German)

The above newsbrief has photos of Kasparov's wife and son.

Interestingly, the same ChessBase issued a newsbrief some time ago that had
photos of a different Kasparov's wife and a daughter.

Even more interestingly, there was an even earlier ChessBase newsbrief
quoting Kasparov's mother saying that "for us (us = Kasparov + his mother)
there is only chess, there are no other things in life like for other
people." Ouch, that was bad for the public image of Kasparov!

Whereupon a week later, ChessBase issued the above mentioned newsbrief with
photos of wife and daughter, photos of husband Kasparov and wife doing
shopping like a well-to-do family does, etc etc.

And now Kasparov has a different wife and son? At least it is the same
mother of Kasparov!

Please ChessBase, post the marriage photos of both marriages, baptismal
photos of the son and the daughter, etc. Of course, if there had been any
additional marriages and sons and daughters, please post those photos as
well! We are all big fans of Kasparov and all of his family members!

Kasparov and Grischuk won their games, Dreev drew, and Svidler and
Morozevich are still torturing their opponents. Kasparov won in a somewhat
dry positional manner, but the game against the always solid Bareev is high
quality, hope this is a genuine indication that Kasparov is out of his rust!

Svidler won with Anand type of wizardry, but by far the most interesting
game of the round, IMHO, turns out to be the game Epishin v Morozevich.
White drew after an epic defence of 70 moves, replay the game guys, you will
enjoy it!
