In the opening sequence of the Observer Effect episode on Star Trek
Enterprise this past week (goofy, invisible, pure energy beings inhabit the bodies of a couple of crew members to "dispassionately" observe how humans will cope with a lethal silicon-based virus...the goofy, pure energy creatures at first refuse to interfere with the natural progression of events, which culminate in the deaths of two humans, and the imminent passing of the inimitable Captain Archer, because to do so would violate their own variation on the infamous "Prime Directive"--a phrase that sounds so very cold and premeditatingly calculating, rather similar to the most infamous phrase ever created: "The Final Solution..."), two Enterprise crew members, inhabited by the goofy pure energy creatures, are depicted playing a game of chess. Sure looked like they were playing a variation of the Caro-Kann defense to me: that is: 1) e4 c6 2) d4 d5 3) Nc3 dxe4 4) Nxe4 Bf5. Except that that check just before the scene faded out did not comport with what I recollect about the natural progression of moves in that particular chess opening. Fascinating. Did anybody get a closer look at what was going on? "The Acoustic Guitar Solitaire Of Inyo" I play 23 solo (that is, I used one guitar with no overdubbing), acoustic, instrumental versions of some of my favorite songs--all available for free download in 128kbps MP3 format. http://members.aol.com/geowrs/music/inyocybercd.html |
