Hello,
We'd like to thank all those who have participated in my sister's
doctoral research. Your
response has been phenomenal. If you would like to contribute, and have
not already done so, the survey will be available online through
October 25th at: https://www.psychdata.com/surveys.asp?SID=7062
With much gratitude,
PhDSister1

To anyone who was unintentionally offended by our request for

I would be happy to take the test, but all the questions concern
gambling.
Chess is not considered gambling.

Your apologies doesn`t change the fact that you are spamming here.

It isn't spam if it isn't in bulk. Unless the post that started this
thread was multiposted (i.e., posted to many groups, one at a time), it
can't reasonably be considered spam. It may have been off-topic but
that's not the same thing.

Dave.

I have an etymological question wholly unrelated to chess: How, why and where did they come up with the term "spam" for whatever it is that is composed in the "food product" called spam, and secondly, more importantly, how, why and when did the term morph into a bulk email? Maybe this question is better addressed to William Safire?

It is widely believed that the "Spam Sketch"
(Monty Python's Flying Circus - originally broadcast in the 1970's)
is effectively the etymological source of "Spam" as a description of
unrequested, unwanted, repetitively offered junk (eg. emails). Go to:

http://www.montypythonpages.com/index1.htm

and click on the various Spam links for further details including
the original script, .wav files, menus etc..

A brilliant site for all Monty Python fans.
