Default Do GMs give a rate to a position in numbers?

When analyzing a position using computers you get a number telling you
how good or bad a position is for black or white. For example +10 is a
really good position for white and -10 a great position for black. But
I wonder if GM use numbers to evaluate position or as any other player
the evaluate them in terms of : bad, good, very good , etc during their
playing.

I've never heard a player talk about evaluating a position based on a
numerical score as part of their own, internal process.

I have attended seminars by Gufeld where he talked about positional
advantages in monetary terms, for example 10 cents if the opponent has
doubled pawns, or you have the two bishops etc. I would imagine that he
would have been more used to roubles and kopecks.

I remember an article by Kasparov about this game,
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1070041
(Viktor Korchnoi vs Garry Kasparov ct(1/2) 1983) in which he did indeed give
numerical values for various positions in the ending.
That was near the time of the match so I don't think GK was being influenced
by computer usage.
I don't know if he continued using the system or if it was a passing fad.

I recommend you reading a superb book by Kotov "Think like a Grandmaster".
There you will find how GM Kotov evaluated positions and his advice on how
to develop your chess skills.
