Been waiting for this one for a couple years. I noticed that the book
now has a cover, so I figured the posted release day was finally for real. Emailed Silman yesterday and got this response: "As usual, it’s very late (my stuff takes me at least two years to write, and often more!). It was just sent to the printer and will be available in early to mid January, 07. It’s the first instructive endgame book that actually tries to give players in different rating groups guidance. Note that I insisted on keeping the price insanely low for such a thick and beautifully laid out book .... I wanted to make sure it was affordable since I honestly feel that it’s a must own for students of the game and for coaches. The specs: Title: Silman’s Complete Endgame Course: From Beginner to Master 530 (oversize!) pages Soft cover $24.95 Feel free to pass the word and assure people that this book will soon be available to everyone. Also, if you do purchase it, please let me know if it lived up to your expectations. Sincerely, Jeremy Silman" |

Although the book sounds very book, after I've browsed the web a bit in
search for info on his other books and the other in general, I've heard more bad stuff about him than good stuff. So I guess I'll just wait a bit before buying this thing. Maybe let the library buy it so I can read it if I feel like it *mwuahahaha* On 24 nov, 13:14, "tOmmetje" wrote: I can't wait to buy the book! You have been misinformed. In general Silman's books are quite good. A few sample reviews: http://www.chesscafe.com/text/accdrag.txt http://www.chesscafe.com/text/ammind.txt http://www.chesscafe.com/text/review420.pdf I have not seen the new endgame course book, but knowing Silman and his work like I do, I am very confident that it will be a very good book. |

Amazon now shows Jan 8, 2007, so that is probably a good date. -- Replace you know what by j to email |

Jeremy Silman is a first class author whos books have greatly helped me understand chess. I have rarely read anything negative about his work. I would highly recommend his books - Amature mind - Reassess your Chess I consider these books modern classics. As for his new book, as soon as it comes out I will definately buy it. If you are looking for an author whos works are generally considered 'suspect'... Avoid Eric Schiller books ... |

Do you want quality or quantity? :-) lol thats why I bought Standard Chess Openings by Eric Schiller. I said to myself 'This book is HUGE, its got to teach me opening theory'. hahahaha I saw a couple other books on the shelf and picked SCO because of all the marketing bs printed on its cover I learned more from 10 pages of Jeremy Silmans books than the whole SCO book. Atleast I know better now ![]() J.Lohner ICC 'Inconnux' |
