So tell us....what do you do for a living? You're probably not bright or competant enough to flip burgers. JMR It's spelled "competent", IQ boy. Only an idiot such as yourself, Kennedy, would stoop to bickering about a trivial spelling error as the concepts are flying right over your 1300 rated head. You lack the intelligence and knowledge to form a cogent argument so you run spell checker praying for an opportunity to start whining about a simple spelling mistake which has no significance whatsoever. Keep crying you frustrated little boy. You'll always be a pathetic little 1300 rated loser, at everything you do. JMR |

Of course, *competent* English writers write them separately, as they are two separate words. I'm confidant you will learn all about this sort of thing when you get out of Junior High, and into the big league of High School, my boy. It's "confident", dumb bot. |

Wherefore are we in criticism if we do not understand /how/ such things operate, so that we should say, PEERis, for Paris? Heuch. Phil Uh, right. Whatever. My point was simply that IQ boy, aka Jason Repa, keeps doling out his insults but all the while making such errors as can only be interpreted as an inability to spell common words, some of them quite easy in fact. The comparison of his *claimed* intelligence to that portion which we all can plainly see is remarkable in the canyon-sized gap which exists in between! Add to this a plethora of failed attempts to lend himself support in his mission as rgc insult-King by posing under many different handles -- yet so transparently that even a child could see through his shallow game -- and what can be concluded, but that he either *is* a young child, or else he is perhaps the most obtuse poster I have yet encountered here, save perhaps the five-year-old who went 'round saying things like "You are dumb!", with no apparent rhyme or reason. (Come to think of it, that may have been our very own Jason Repa, just in a slightly different mood.) It really bugs me that this programmer who created the JR insult-bot could not manage at least a reasonable imitation of artificial intelligence. We are so advanced in some areas, yet so very backward in others. It's almost as if the programmer got carried away in implementing the sideline, the chess playing aspect, and "forgot" to do his main job, which obviously was writing a decent insult-bot. Such a simple task, and yet such a mucked-up job of it. If I were his boss, I'd fire him and send him over to work for Sanny, I would. I call that win-win. -- help bot |

Shoot, if I read in Anglo Saxon for a few hours I also can't spell worth a shirt, Ninglysh norm Erikun. Jus coz he kent spel dunmene hiz idees r@nutz. they is only insimdentably soo. smore importulent, if yoon dask me, if'n the structural thingymebobs line up to ken his fawts. The comparison of his *claimed* intelligence to that portion which we all can plainly see is remarkable in the canyon-sized gap which exists in between! Less he is smarter than both of us put together, and its self-effacing parody. Though, this is rarely seen on usenet, which more often sponsors 8 year-old stinky-poo insults, you got to be 10 to do sex, and 47 for politics Add to this a plethora of failed attempts to lend himself support in his mission as rgc insult-King by posing under many different handles neglecting only the shower-handle - but there is an interesting stem~word, which we continue to spell variously. As in WINDLASS, the handle of which is called a HANDLASS. You would think the last syllable abbreviated, no, as forshortened hypenations sometimes are. HAND-BREDE is A. Sax., [HANDIG is L.G.] and means hand's breadth. Another old word is HANDELL, from /Pegge/ which is 'a fuller's instrument', which evolved HANDFUL, meaning 4 inches, being the measure of a hand, which also had the synonym 'a span'. Later, post-Elizabethan Dekker used HANDLOCKED for handcuffed, but HANDYCUFFS meant something else, blows! [Florio] Also rendered HANDYBLOWS [Hawkins]. So this spelling HANDLE is odd, out of accord with the pattern. But this almost certainly because without a suffix HANDL [Icel, Norse] was cumbersome to say in A. Sax., and later English stipped off that not-silent, and not even present [!] 'e' from the end, leaving us with HAND, yet retaining the L [+'e'] sound from East Saxon Norsc. Why indeed this atavism survived a few hundred years of indifferent spelling with variations on 'handell' is one of the remarkable interesting things about the continuing existance of A. Sax. particularly in people's speech, and we must assume that the few who were literate eventually gave up on A. Norm. phoneticism, and gave in to the spoken word, so handell became handle again. What do you think? Phil -- yet so transparently that even a child could see through his shallow game -- and what can be concluded, but that he either *is* a young child, or else he is perhaps the most obtuse poster I have yet encountered here, save perhaps the five-year-old who went 'round saying things like "You are dumb!", with no apparent rhyme or reason.
