KUDOS TO SAM SLOAN

The moderator at uschess.org/forums has gone nuts today,
deleting numerous postings by myself, Joel Channing and Joe
Lux. Here is one of my postings that was deleted by the

The overwhelming balance of what Sam writes
below belongs first and foremost on the USCF censored
forum. It is one of Sam's strongest efforts, though I
think the business about Susan Polgar playing in some
young girl's tournament can probably be explained by
her getting the year wrong. Or simply a lapse of
memory over a quarter century and countless tournaments.

Now, then, I find Susan Polgar's expenses not
to be out of line, though she has to understand that
once she is on the Executive Board, then much must
change. The point, though, is that Sam is absolutely
right to publicize these issues and expenses, even
when my conclusions about their import may not be the
same as his own.

I begin to believe that along with Tom Dorsch
and Jim Eade, Sam is one of the finest Board members
ever to serve the USCF. His energy, his dedication to
openness, his evident CARING for the promotion of
chess in the United States -- the man is doing a fine
job on the Board.

1. This book, sold by Sloan even today, endorses a platform of sexual

2. Poland was convicted by the State of California of having molested
an eight-year-old girl.

4. In 2006, Sam Sloan used Wikipedia as a platform to offer two
separate apologias for his former colleague Poland.

In Excerpt 1 below, Sloan accuses the child's parents of being
"obviously complici[t]" in the molestation. Even granting the
hypothetical, how would the parents' complicity be exculpatory?

In the contradictory Excerpt 2, Sloan accuses the child's parents of
themselves "abusing the child."

Sloan presents no evidence for the parent's complicity in Poland's
molestation or for his claim that the parents themselves abused the
daughter. Poland's curious choice of surname (as documented on the
California Megan's Law site) would tend to suggest otherwise.

Kudos to Susan Polgar, who emailed the original invoice to me back in
2003, when I first posted it--er, "publicize[d] these issues and
expenses"--on this forum.
