Yes, it is great for an improving player. Unlike most endgame books
that arrange the material according to the pieces, this book puts the
material in order of what players of different strengths should know
and understand. It starts with beginners (1000) and has a chapter
for each class up to master. For instance, rook endings are covered
in all or almost all chapters at increasing depth.

I have it and I am reading it now.

It trys to answer the question "At various rating levels, what do I
need to know about the endgame?", shows you those things, and nothing
else.

It's basically "Essential Endgame Knowledge By Rating", up to Cat A/
Expert.

I'd give it 4 of 5 stars.

I was browsing it the other day in a bookstore. It looks like a great
endgame book, with Silman's typical lucidity when it comes to
explanations.

I think I already know most of the material in it, so I skipped it. But
this would probably be my recommendation for somebody looking for a
first real endgame book. It may lean slightly too much towards the
theoretical, so I might pair it with something like Soltis' "Grandmaster
Secrets: Endings" but I didn't spent a ton of time in the early
chapters, so it's hard for me to say so definitively.

For those with the first edition, Silman has an 'Errata Sheet" at:
