That's a lie.

("Flooding", eh? Break out the lifeboats... .)

Is *cross-posting* technically considered to be
spamming? Many times, I have noticed that one
(or many) of my replies got posted to other newsgroups
which I never read, apparently because the post to
which I replied had multiple newsgroups listed, and
these are *automatically* copied by my browser.
The same thing applies to the topic header: if some
nitwit, like say Skippy Repa, were to type a nasty
comment into that field, it is *automatically* copied
into my reply -- something which might well escape
notice until afterward. Given these automated
"features", it is quite easy for things to get mucked
up.

True (I have made the same error, until I got better
newsreader software that asks first), but on the
other hand...

Posting non-computer-chess-related material to a computer
chess newsgroup because that's where the post you are
replying to happens to be is like crapping in your pants
because that's where your asshole happens to be.

Not really. It's more like defending yourself in every theatre of
battle you were attacked in. I do understand your frustration But
there is nothing that anyof us can do about it aside from blocking
everyone. Doesnt leave much to read when you do that. My advise would
be to ignore any topic you dont want to read .

Interesting "reasoning"; do your pants come with an
automated feature which directs your excrement to the
same (multiple) areas as the guy who wore them before
you did? I usually just buy the cheap ones -- you know,
the features include a brass or nylon zipper, double
stitching, and in some cases, bartacking at stress
points.

Another point which ought to be mentioned is that
whenever one switches to a new browser or even an
updated version, the interface can change, the features
can change -- without warning. I have several times
noted that after some such update I am utterly unable
to use the semicolon, on account of the software simply
hijacking that character for its own use as a function
key. Eventually, the problem goes away -- again, by
itself and not at my behest.

Blaming computer users for all the peculiarities
incorporated by sadistic software engineers is like
blaming the chessmen for chessplayers' incompetence
in the endgame.

You can post a seperate response in the computer chess newsgroup,
thus avoiding the cascade of crossposted off-topic posts.
