Hi,

I'm looking for Drueke 36-H(extra heavy chessmen) Players Choice, and
a 5" Drueke. Can someone help? Thanks.

You can try here. They have decent prices, and appear to be a Drueke
distributer. Even if not specifically on the price list they may be
able to get what you want, at a decent price.

Cheers

The Chess House is a good store. That being said, I think he wants the
1970-1990 version of the Drueke called the Players Choice. That is no
longer being made. Dreuek was bought out and retooled. The newer sets
are not bad, they just are not the player's choice set. I got one off
ebay about a year ago that was in perfect shape. There was also a wood
version (or two) modeled after the players choice from Chesstopia. I
think they called it The Duke. In any case, the Knights on the player
choice were a little rounder and looked great (IMHO).

Good info, that was the period I was actually buying stuff, then dropped
out, and now back in. Now I know. Thanks

Hi Ken,
Which model did you get? I just paid a small fortune for a 36H on ebay
(I'd been looking a long time) and asked the seller to package the
pieces individually. Well she didn't and two of the pieces were broken
in shipping. I need a maple king and black bishop.

I was watching an auction for that Drueke set. It went for 201.00
dollars. That is pretty bad what that lady did. Is there anything
you can do about it? I know that I would like to try to get a set
like that but if this is the risk then maybe not.

The one I got of ebay was a beige and black set in cardboard box with
the number 35 on one side. ( only paid 30.00 for this sometime in the
last two years. I have an oldDreuke from 1976 (or 77) that was either
double or triple weighted, along with the long out of production
folding linen board. I retired these into storage about 7 years ago
when I relized how rare they were. Not sure of the model number on my
old set.

It seems Chesstopia is out of the ebony DUKE set. But ehy have a
picture of the old Dreuke plastic there and still some sheesham wood
sets.

http://www.chesstopiaworld.com/staun...estaunton.html

The ebony set is very nice. I collect sets and have all the ones
Chesstopia made. I have most of the House of Staunton sets and a few
of the Mark of Westminster. Eventually cost got too high to keep
collecting.

The old Dreuke is still my favorite plastic set. Followed by the old
Cavalier plastic set. House of Stanton and Legend both have some
pretty nice plastic sets mych cheaper than ebay has old Dreukes now.

http://www.houseofstaunton.com/HOS/PlasticCollBN.html 4" $ 70. 3.75
about 55 I think.

HOS has 3 models of plastic sets. I think they sell through Chess life
now. http://www.houseofstaunton.com/

Legend has 2 plastic sets. I have the King's Indian with a interesting
Knight. I like it, my friend said he didn't like the knight looking
down. Taste. http://www.legendproduct.com/ About $40.00.

I'm sure that there are other nice plastic sets, but these two are the
closest to the quality of the old Drueke that I have held in my hands.

Speaking of Ebay. The Cavalier set I have is the one from Pacific
Games like this one, but Black.

http://cgi.ebay.com/CAVALIER-CHESS-S...QQcmdZViewItem

Couple of old Player's choice (3 3/4 inch) under $ 100.

http://cgi.ebay.com/WOW-OLD-DRUEKE-3...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.com/Drueke-Model-35B...QQcmdZViewItem

Sorry to run on. Anyway, good luck finding a nice set. I hope I helped
a little.

Hi E,
I've processed a claim through PayPal. She has refused a return and
offered a $20 refund. I explained that the value lies in the set, not
in the individual pieces and with two broken pieces the set is
incomplete and rendered useless. I talked to the PayPal resolution
center today and I like my chances of winning this one. I expect to
get a full refund but we'll see. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hi Ken,

Running on is OK as I'm a bit of a collector myself. I just won one of
the ebay sets above and hope to have better luck with this seller than
I did with the other one.

I have the single weighted Drueke Players Choice in all colors (maple,
black, white, and red) as well as the linen board you mention. What's
missing is the heavier weighted version and hopefully I solved that
tonight. I'd also like to get the 5" version, which I once had but
sold.

My favorite plastic set is the Windsor Castle which I have in white
and black and maple and black (both weighted).

I also have two of the double weighted black and white Cavalier.

I don't think I ever found a nice Windsor castle one. I believe one of
the House of Staunton wood sets was based on it. I looked on ebay for
a while, but never found a good complete set.

Good luck on the PayPal thing. Surely she must know a set with even
one broken piece is worth much less. Plus, you told her to wrap each
piece. Anyway, good luck.

Ken
