We are playing over the e mail and he is in England so when i wake up to go to work he has a move waiting for me so then i move and when i get home he has a move waiting for me so before i go to bed i move again.....We try and do two moves per day ..Some times i get home before he go's to bed and if i catch him on line then we make a few moves to speed things up..... His last move was King G-8 to G-7 ......so my last move was Bishop G-2 to F-3......now his move......ill get it when i wake up.... who will win or do you think it mite be a draw? |

He wins easily ? wow ...
I can not see it , we are not very high on the ELO chart ....We are about even but i have no idea how to figure out our ELO .. I have beaten him a few times and he has beaten me a few times .. I am sure one of us will make a mistake and lose so i am not ready to give up just yet.. My friend sent me a e mail BUT he forgot to move.....I hope when i wake up to leave for work he will have moved .. To the other guy i just posted the game in here because i come here a lot ...If i wanted to cheat id let my Ivan computer make my moves .. The box say's I800 ELO but that is false , my friend dummied down his Fritz 9 and they battle pretty good at I700 ELO... |

The position as I set it up (correct me if I'm wrong) had you down the exchange AND a pawn. Now, even without the extra pawn this is a clear-cut win, but with it, it becomes a simple task. Do you see that you have what is known as a "backward" pawn? That your opponent has blockaded this pawn, and that your pieces interfere with one another such that you cannot even grab the half-open file (not that that would save you)? When I first read your original post, I assumed you were asking about K&R&R vs. K&R&B, to find out if this simple ending could be won perforce. Instead, I find that not only are there a multitude of pawns left on the board, but you are in a passive position AND down a pawn to boot! In short, the only question remaining is how long do you want to suffer? It boils down to this: a Rook is superior to a Bishop; the extra pawn makes things even easier for Black; two Rooks work well together here, and your opponent can even open another file if it turns out he has any difficulties in exploiting the one he already "owns". Even a very strong player would have grave difficulties defending your position, because you have so little to work with. Your only hope is if your opponent switches to your side, blundering for no reason. IMO, even Phil Innes could win this endgame. Possibly even Rob Mitchell (though I wouldn't bet on him). Sam Sloan, Larry Parr, Jason "Skippy" Repa -- all of the Evans ratpackers, despite their severe mental handicaps, could win it. However, since your opponent "forgot to move" maybe you could get away with playing two moves in-a-row? Kidding! :D Let's do some addition, shall we? You are down three points (two for the exchange, plus one pawn). That's a loss. In order to make things interesting, you need to be down only one point, generally speaking. This is what GM Capablanca was talking about when he wrote that people should learn the game backwards, starting with the endgame first. -- help bot |

I like reading your stuff because you make it interesting ( Hep bot )
... I was wondering what is your ELO ? just curious ... backward pawn i see it , i learn something every day..Just never knew that was what it was called...... By the way he did move Pawn to E-5 so i moved F-4 pawn x E -5 ......check ..... Now i am sure his King takes pawn then i am thinking my rook on D-2 to E-2 check so he moves his King then my bishop on G-2 to D-5 blocking his D-8 rook from his D-4 rook... I do see that i am not in the best position but i am not ready to give up yet ..He has blundered before ...Will he do it again ? not sure .. The reason we can move like we do is because he is 8 hours a head of me ...Me Seattle and he in England ...... yes being a pawn down hurts too........ |

I am 1400+ at GetClub and I just got bumped back from the 1700 mark at RedHotPawn due to trying to play a super-sharp opening I don't know well (the ...e6 four knights Sicilian). backward pawn i see it , i learn something every day..Just never knew that was what it was called...... Well, just get a hold of Hans Kmock's book -- he's got a name for everything. That extra pawn your opponent has? It will soon translate into him obtaining a "passer" on account of numerous available "pawn levers". By the way he did move Pawn to E-5 so i moved F-4 pawn x E -5 .....check ..... Now if he "forgets to move" you can capture his King! It may be a violation of the Geneva Convention, but still... . Now i am sure his King takes pawn then i am thinking my rook on D-2 to E-2 check so he moves his King then my bishop on G-2 to D-5 blocking his D-8 rook from his D-4 rook... The reason we can move like we do is because he is 8 hours a head of me ..Me Seattle and he in England ...... At RedHotPawn, I often get in a half-dozen moves in one day if my opponent and I are both on at the same time. yes being a pawn down hurts too........ The best part about being a patzer is that you don't always know just how hopelessly lost you are! I miss that. -- help bot |

I meant to say F-6 , sorry.....
My F-3 pawn took his E-5 pawn and i checked him and his King took my pawn on E-5 .. So i just moved my rook D-2 to E-2 check .. His King can only move to D-6 or F-6.. then i plan on putting my bishop on D-5 to bock his rooks.......i will study the game a little more. His move .. |

Did you ever see the movie Searching For bobby Fishcher ? Look it up if
you have not it is a good movie.. At the end the two kids are playing in the championship game and as the game go's on the one kid sticks his hand out and say lets draw .....The other kid say's are you crazy , look at the board , no way ....So the other kid say's i have looked at the board and you have lost you just do not know it yet .....So he beat him.. Good line because it is true...... I400 , i belive i mite be that much ? If you feel like playing a game some time let me know or hey you want to play my Ivan ? It is about I700 ELO.......My friend has lost to it a few times ...ME 400 + times and i have only beat it one time on the strongest level.. When i played it vs Fritz i can see the weaknesses Ivan has in the end game but i am not able to exploit it yet ... |
