Default US Championships Pairings Anomaly

It's the US Championships, and this USCF TD is really curious..... Can
someone explain to me why a player with 3.5 points would be paired
against a player with 2.0 points?
( Friedel-Krush, Rd. 6 pairing. Four players were at 3.0, six
players were at 2.5.)

Either there's a logical explanation, or this is a really big Oops.
