I am in favor of the slow-motion instant replay. If you recall,
in the James Bond movie "Goldfinger", the players agreed
beforehand to observe the strict rules of golf; later, the evil
villain lost because he had played the wrong ball. The same
idea could work in chess, if both players agree that any
rules violation caught on camera can result in a forfeit of the
game.

Wrong, Bond-girl-breath. Bond exchanged a Slazenger 1 and a
Slazenger 7.

That was in the regular movie; in the director's cut, the
bond girls were in the bedroom scene all at one time,
and the Slazenger-7 was switched for a OnaTop Flight
ball. George Lazenby delivered a marvelous performance,
as I recall. ;D

How very kind and thoughtful of you to sate your intellectual

do your experiments somewhere else.

I see it all the time. Player A makes his move, reaches for the
clock. As he's reaching for the clock, Player B starts reaching
for his piece. A lot of the time player B reaches the piece before
Player A reaches the clock.

I'm not sure if B's actions are strictly against the rules

Reaching for the piece before the clock is pressed is fine. Picking
it up before the clock is pressed is not fine.

but in this scenario A is entitled to stop his clock however quick B
is - even if B has completed his move on the board.

Of course. Though, if B has completed his move on the board, A would
do better to stop the clocks and summon the arbiter.

So it *IS* acceptable for you to add your URL at the end of your
posts -- a choice that meets your needs but does nothing for me
and exposes me to an extra -- let's count -- 121 characters that
are of no use to me at all, but it's *NOT* acceptable for me to
impose 36 characters on you in order to conduct research that I
will publish along with my previous (rather well recieved) Google
algorithm investigations?

You just quoted an entire post, including sig -- so as to add
the above content-free 7-letter message.

Perhaps you aren't in the ideal position for criticising the
posting style of others.

Yup. That's just about right.

He's staying within long-accepted guidelines for appropriate USENET
behavior...and you are not.

Well, er, yes? My signature is within the 4x80 limit that has been
agreed to be acceptable on Usenet for, ooh, longer than either of us
has been using the internet, I'd wager. Likewise, it's acceptable for
you to add your signature to the end of your posts. (By the way, you
have five blank lines at the end of yours that ought to be trimed.)

but it's *NOT* acceptable for me to impose 36 characters on you

The number of characters is irrelevant. The point is that you were
futzing around with subject lines in a way that is, to say the least,
unusual, and that I (and I suspect, others) find rather annoying.
`Impose' is a good choice of verb, by the way.

in order to conduct research that I will publish along with my

Yes, yes, my research on mathematical logic and graph theory is also,
in general, rather well-received. But it has nothing to do with chess
so I don't impose it here.
