I think this is a good time to revisit this issue. Back in 2004, when
Susan Polgar was trying to form her "Dream Team" by excluding certain players she did not want playing on the US Woman's Chess Olympiad team, Anjelina Belakovskaia, former US Woman's Champion, stated that Polgar's screaming was like "girls in a bordello fighting over a client". This was in post number 9922 on the FIDE Chess Yahoo Group. Polgar immediately responded that she was insulted over the suggestion that she would work in a cheap bordello. She demanded an apology which, of course, was never forthcoming. Here is the start of the thread which resulted in dozens of postings involving most of the top ranked woman players. This would be a good time to review these postings, now that Polgar is running for election, especially since she is using the resulting US Woman's Olympiad Team as the centerpiece of her election campaign: The thread starts at: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/...s/message/9922 --- In , "Anjelina" usqueen@... wrote: And this is your DREAM TEAM? Look what you got: Krush and Shahade are against Goletiani, all of them are against Hahn, illegally squeezed in Zatonskih is hiding, Polgar is screaming. It sounds more like girls in a Bordello are fighting over a client, rather than an Olympic Team preparing to win a medal. Why did we let Polgar come in the picture in the first place? Just to ruin women chess in America and cut deals behind the scenes? |

Here is one of Susan's first responses to Anjelina's posting:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/.../message/10017 [fide-chess] My proposed solution to the Anna Khan Problem No, this is not the comments of my opponents. This is a derogatory, vicious, insulting, and obnoxious that was made a former US Champion. If the organizer(s) and the USCF find that the comments were inappropriate and take actions or issue a censure, I have no problem with it. If the organizer(s) and the USCF keep silence, that is my interpretation of them endorsing it. People may disagree with each other. People may hate other people. However, no one should be entitled to say things that were said in a public forum. That was inexcusable. The organizer(s) is/are entitled to invite anyone they want. I also have the right to refuse to play in a tournament with such people. I also will not associate myself with such people. Now, it will be up to the organizer(s) to make up their minds. I have clearly made up mine. |

Sam Sloan, Joe Lux, Stephen Jones and Don Schultz. This is the team
which will lead the USCF to the promised land. Members of this team have the endorsement of Bill Goichberg, Steve Doyle, Leroy Dubeck and God! |

You do not deserve my respond for your tasteless and classless
remarks. Maybe this is the way how you think and behave but it is far from mine. You are an absolute disgrace to the chess community. Susan Polgar 4-time Women's Champion and 3-time Olympiad Champion www.SusanPolgar.com http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/...s/message/9923 |

Why is Susan so concerned about confidentiality? Could it be that her first step in the process of creating the training team was to hoodwink Frank Niro into removing Anna Hahn from the team? I wouldn't want people to know about that if I were her either. Joel Joel Benjamin In a message dated 3/26/04 8:38:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, writes: It is obvious that you have illegally obtained confidential correspondence since the issue of the Women's Olympiad did not concern you. You were neither |

Quote:
The debate lasted for weeks and in a sense is still going on as it is brought up from time to time, especially by Eric Johnson. Almost every top woman chess player participated, as it affected them. Among the most frequent posters were Elena Donaldson Akhmylovskaya and her husband, Georgi Orlov, Susan Polgar, Paul Truong, Irina Krush, Gregory Shahade representing his sister Jennifer, Beatriz Marinello and several others. I do not believe that Anna Hahn ever posted on this issue, although it revolved around her. (She, after all, had a real job.) Anjelina Belakovskaia came into the debate rather late. She apparently did not know about it. That is the reason why she wrote "all the girls are fighting" and complained that she had been left out of the discussion. If you have a week or two of time you can spare, I recommend that you go back and join and read the archives in and learn about this lengthy debate. Sam Sloan |
