Default How much is my chess book worth ?

I own of copy of Karpov's My 300 best games book. I met Karpov at a
chess simultaneous exhibition that he was giving a couple years ago.
He autographed my book for me.

I was wondering how much my book was worth because it is autographed
and in like new condition.

Online, I found used copies of the book to be worth over $170:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...3136738&sr=8-1

Does that mean my book is worth more than $300 ?

Thanks.

Those books are being offered for $170. Anybody can ask any price for
any book. They're only worth that much if someone buys at that price.
Isn't this the same book sold on the internet for $25? It looks like
the first seller on Amazon undercut the price of the second by a penny
after he saw his listing. Why would either think it's worth that much?
I think they're scammers. I'd like to see the sucker who would
actually buy at that price!

Does that mean my book is worth more than $300 ?

Let's see. It goes for $25 new and unsigned. Karpov has been signing
his autograph for decades so it can't be worth much. Your book is
"like new" and signed so would likely sell for $35-$50.

No. However if you have a copy of the 1968 candidates tournament
translated by Cafferty then you may have a book worth that much.

Such a book would indeed be quite ra there was no Candidates
_Tournament_ in 1968. Did Cafferty translate a book of all the
Candidates Matches that year?

Sorry. Candidates matches.

Yes. It is a single small book published by The Chess Player in 1970
translated into english.

Reshevsky - Korchnoi
Portisch - Larsen
Tal - Gligoric
Spassky - Geller

-Semi-

Korchnoi - Tal
Spassky - Larsen

-Final-

Spassky - Korchnoi

Winner - Spassky

It even has the 3rd place match between Larsen and Tal which Larsen
won and all the games were annotated except the 3rd place match. He
also did a book on the candidates matches in 1965.

Ah, yes, good old Tony Gillam, one of the most faithful laborers in
Caissa's vineyard. Thanks for the clarification. :-)
