That's only true on the groups.google.com website. That's the Fake
Usenet. The Real Usenet doesn't a;llow one to do that.

Not quite. The "Real USENET" does allow posts to be cancelled.
However, implementation is left to the distributed mass of independent
news administrators. Largely because cancellations are so easy to
forge, most news admins configure their systems to ignore cancellations.

This is not a wise policy for large, visible news sites with deep
pockets. Precursors of Google - organizations that attemted to archive
everything - found themselves embroiled in controversy when *legitimate*
attempts to cancel posts were ignored.

Google is trying to strike a reasonable balance between total archives
AND respecting (original posters') desires to cancel postings. It
really only works properly for those who use Google to read news - which
is probably the only audience Google cares about.

If you depend on Google for News - you accept their rules.

If you want "real USENET", be prepared to be subject to the sum total of
the accumulated wisdom (and stupidity) of distributed news admins.

You pays your money, and you takes your choice.
