Look for Polgar's book (5334 positions).

Why buy a book with "easy" mates? Wouldn't one showing how to elicit
the more difficult ones be of more value?

OF VALUE TO WHOM?

100 EASY CHECKMATES

By Larry Evans

$9.95 (ship class A)
20% discount off this price (applied at checkout)!

With no chess notation, this is a great book for beginning players,
especially children. These easy one-and two-move checkmates are not
only fun but also great training tools. Set up for quick learning, the
author presents one hundred basic mating situations in large-sized,
easy-to-understand diagrams. You are asked to solve the mate, and then
shown how to solve the problem using plain words. Both challenging and
fun, this practical guide is great for all beginning players. 144

I liked this book the first time it was published: as "Bobby Fischer
Teaches Chess"

cool, thanks, I'll check this out of the library and then order a few
copies if I like it. It still amazes me that kids will push around
the pieces forever without actually being able to put their opponent
away.

Agreed. It costs about 2-3 times as much as other books mentioned here
and has at least 20 times as many positions as any of the others. You
can't ask for a better value, and it really does have some great
material. Besides basic mates, which make up most of the book, there
are some short, tactical games presented in their entirety, and even a
section on basic endgames. Highly recommended.
